There's one country in the Caucasus mountains which celebrates "toasts": Georgia. They have professional toastmasters (tamadas) who make their living by attending festivities and bringing out the most intriguing toasts I've ever heard. An example:

"A poisonous snake and a tortoise are crossing a lake. As the snake can't swim, it lies on the tortoise's back.

Both hate each other fervently. The snake thinks: If I bite the tortoise, it will die, but then it'll sink and I'll drown.

The tortoise thinks: I could dive so that the snake will drown, but surely it finds enough time to bite me, and I'll die, too.

So they both cross the lake peacefully. Therefore, let's drink to the friendship between women!" 😛
