Well it's about a week and a half into Big Brother and I've already succumbed to it. I really think you can learn a lot about how people react to certain behaviou/- ok, fuck it, I’ve just got a lot of time on my hands atm alright.
Nush is gorgeous, I just wanna wrap her up in a blanket and cuddle her! Does that sound gay?

Gah! That show is terrible. Its into its 3rd series in Australia... I hated the first.... I hated the second... I hated the celebraty series and I'm hating the 3rd... whats more I hate it how the rest of my family watches it... arrrrg! Its not about how people react to each other... ITS HOW QUICKLY THAT CAN GET THEM TO HAVE SEX ON TV DAMNIT!

I'm sorry, I'll go somewhere else now.

Hmmmm...that last post would lead one to ask, "If you hated the first, why bother with the others?" 😉

I, for one, hate reality TV. First of all, they aren't REAL to begin with. Even the "Tough Enough" reality shows (which I only watch because it's WWE) are overboard. In my book, reality TV is a poor excuse for entertainment and isn't worth the time or money spent on making it, much less watching it. When are we going to start getting some decent television back?

Why, back in the OLD days....

I echo these sentiments exactly!

Wow! Ann, I think this is a first for you and me! :upsidedow

(Take a tip from me, when you start complaining about how bad you had it as a kid, don't try to tell 'em you had to walk to school barefoot through the snow uphill both ways. I'ts tough to sell that one!) 😉

reality television

What is called a 'reality TV show' is actually just an elaborate quiz show or game show. That is, a game with a large prize, and contestants eager to win the prize.

So why do so many people watch?

IMHO, because the emotion is genuine. Somebody who has just been voted off is genuinely miserable that their chance of winning is gone. The eventual winner is genuinely ecstatic. People do like to see real emotion on TV.

Lol Ann, TV doesn't get much more real than WWE does it?
And I know Big Brother is a bit of a waste of time (just like all TV), but what isn't real about it?

You forgot the 5 miles part! 😛

Yeah, ok. So WWE is partly scripted as well. But, at least there's some humor there. And contrary to popular opinion, they DO really wrestle. It's only the final outcome that's predetermined.

To answer your question, what I see as not being real is the fact that these people KNOW they're on TV and act accordingly. I just find it very put-on.

It's just a matter of taste. I know plenty of folks who won't miss the "reality" shows for any reason. I simply don't find them at all entertaining. So, I don't watch them.

Ann

Hmmmm...that last post would lead one to ask, "If you hated the first, why bother with the others?"

Ahhh, I did not watch any of them... except perhaps a little of the first... but as I said, the rest of my family watches it instead. And only having one t.v. in the center of the house I have to either go to my room or go play the piano to not watch it... and also not having a wall between the kitchen and the black box means that if I just come home from uni and I want to relax and have something to eat... if I do it at the wrong time I basically have to watch the damn thing.

"Decent television"? Ann, I'd rather and lots rather watch The Amazing Race (one of my favorite shows, by the way, if only because I like to travel) than, say, Enterprise or 7th Heaven or Friends or King of Queens or CSI Miami -- why doesn't anyone complain about the eight billion nearly indistinguishable cop shows out there, incidentally?

"Reality" is a genre, and just like any other genre it has its good (TAR, Trading Spaces, Tough Enough) and its execrable (American Idol). Don't dismiss it all out of hand.

Let's get back to the point of this thread...

BB4 is a bit slow to start. Seems Jon Tickle is the fave to leave first. Well, he is boring and he doesn't live up to his name... AT ALL. I happen to like Nush quite a lot. She's that ditzy, adorable blonde who's hard not to like (kinda reminds me of Tiffany here) and is barefoot a lot. Wrap her up in a blanket and cuddle her? Gay? Of course not. I definitely like to snuggle up to her... and give her a feathering too...

You're missing the point here. That is all part of the game: Everyone acts up at first. (In exactly the same way you or I would if we were in there) It's understandable for a week or so. People who are judged by the public to be the most pretentious are always the first to go. It’s just another character flaw that the public and housemates alike pick up on.
The concept of the game is simple - A bunch of ordinary people are put in a house where they are filmed. Every week, the least popular person is chucked out. As milagros says, it is probably addictive because you know that the emotions are real, just as you can only enjoy a film when the acting is believable. These people aren't acting. And if they try, it's obvious and noone stands for it.
I'll also say that Big Brother UK is by far the best-produced version of the show. I was actually in Australia this year when theirs started, and it did look weak. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s worse still in the States.
I'm not even going to start on what I think of wrestling, because, as you say, it's just a matter of taste. Watching TV is never a good use of time really.

Seems how we're complaining about TYV shows, I HATE LAW AND ORDER-all of it, I used to like it, but Im sick of the same episodes over and over and over and the spinoffs are even more gag worthy

All I give an arse about is that the girls havn't bothered with footwear for days now! :veryhappy Nush's feet in particular have me drooling, especially when she's wearing that damn denim!

The other Nush looked stroppy from the moment she walked in the house. I was watching the entrance with my mum and we both looked at each other and said that she would be going out first.

We also had a good chuckle about how blonde Nush was like a replay of Sada from Series 1. (The UK has had 4 series including this one and 2 celebrity versions.) The only difference is that she isn't a selfish bitch........ and doesn't insist on cancelling half the house shopping budget to buy a tortoise and tofu......and doesn't waffle on about her frigging book............and her wonderful boyfriend.......and how much she wants to leave.

Apart from that they're exactly the same. 😀 Blonde hippy chicks. 😀 Oh yeah... Nush doesn't look like a skeleton with skin hanging on it's bones like Sada. Ugh!

So the bitch is gone. I thought it was quite funny how she instantly started blurting out "we don't know what the outside world has been shown!" "we don't know what they've seen!"
I really want Cameron to go, he's a sly git. I haven't seen Nush's feet but I still think she's adorable.

Then you ain't seen nothing yet buster! Nush's feet, me, a set of stocks, a jar of honey............:firedevil  :firedevil  :firedevil  :firedevil

*THINKING BAD THOUGHTS!!!*

Hey! Well, great minds think alike, eh Jimmy? Oh man, those sexy feet with that toe-ring... got my juices flowing. I have to agree, Nush is very whimsical. She's like the chirpy friend you never had. She's more of a hippie hippie, not a yuppie hippie like Sada. Besides, her personality makes her the fave to win. My money's on her to win too, though I've not betted yet!

Nush and Sada alike, Jimmy? Begone, heathen!!! :firedevil

It looks like something's troubling her. I think she's a really fragile person. The problem with someone like Nush is, she's got a huge heart, but she needs a lot of love in return. (Like when Anouska said "Jon does my head in" she looked a bit upset and just replied "I've really warmed to him") Unless someone starts to give her the love she needs, I think she'll get really blue. And she needs lots of love 😉
But why should they help her? It's a game - If she's too weak, they may aswell sit back and watch her crumble. Are they that smart/cold though?
I reckon she could easily get nominated this week.

On a lighter note - She's got a brilliant little laugh! She's one of those girls who giggles 'n gasps.

Tv Land...

I watch about 2 hours of TV a week, but every summer I catch BigBrother and enjoy it immensely. Ours hasn't started yet, so I'll enjoy this thread and just wait patiently for our version...sigh. As for reality TV vs. quality, it's a moot point. SOMEBODY is watching all these talk shows or they'd be cancelled, so why pretend that anything to do with this medium is related to quality...it's all about the commercials and eventual ROI. BB is a fine example of a pyschological experiment taken to an extreme, and I find the interplay very entertaining. Seems the US version is a bit tamer than yours though, with a decided lack of graphic "anything".... Q

We have a German version of BigBrother, too, and I'm like Jim: Practically all the girls on our series run around barefoot or in flipflops about 90% of the time, and that's by far the most attractive point of this program.

There were even 2 brief tickle encounters while I watched (and I watch less than 2% of this series). Last week, the TV station had to issue a 48h-sex-ban on the members because many of the scenes were too hot for daytime TV. Right now they're discussing about broadcasting the hotter scenes late at night (2am or so). I'll probably tape them for later fast-forward viewing to catch more tickle-scenes... 😉

Big brother? Is that the stuff with a small group of dumb people in a house with cameras?

I think that shit started here in holland 😀

You're right, ST. I believe Endemol make several programs here in the UK, and have other franchises too. Mind you, your Big Brother is generally more frisky!

My love for Nush is growing. She's virtually barefoot ALL the time I see her.

I've since changed my mind about Nush. I'm not sure she's as weak as I thought she was.
