Bizarre Dream...

I had a dream last night where I was on some woodsy college campus (definitely not Pitt) and a bunch of my high school buds were there...anyhoo, in the dream, I somehow knew the beans had been spilled about my particular fetish, and everyone was looking at me, pointing, whispering, laughing, etc...but here's where it gets weird...I was BEST friends with this girl in high school who, since our freshman year of college, has been in and out of facilities to help her conquer her eating disorder...so needless to say, I haven't seen or heard much from her since then...but before college, she was getting pretty sick (mentally and physically) and took a lot out on me because I was one of the few who tried to get her some help...well, in the dream, my friend comes waltzing in, like nothing had happened...like we just saw eachother yesterday and she was still my buddy...and she draws a bath in this BIG version of one of those old fashioned tubs with the legs on the bottom...and we both get in (I couldn't tell if we were clothed or not...but for the sake of those who need a fantasy, sure! We were naked!!! 😛) and she starts cuddling up to me...and then whispers in my ear, "I'm kinda new to this, so help me out a little" and proceeds to try tickling the hell out of me...in the dream, I got up and ran...and woke up a short time later after a few more scenes played out that had nothing to do with tickling...but I'm really confused...I usually love/savor dreams where I get attacked...but this one was scary...and I felt uncomfortable the whole time--even woke up with a worse than normal case of my back problems.

Does anyone have any insight into what this one might mean? Anything would be better than me sitting here wondering what's wrong with my brain...thanks in advance for any light shed on the subject!!!

It's usually a mistake to try too hard to make sense of dreams. They're caused by random firing of signals from the very primitive parts of the brain, which the cognitive centers, disconnected from their normal sense inputs, try desperately to force into some kind of order. In other words, lots of random stuff in one's memories just gets randomly tapped.

An uncomfortable dream can be unpleasant, but it doesn't really "mean" anything. There's a LOT of medical lit to back me up here. Just remember that Freud on dreams is almost totally discredited.

Hope that helps. 🙂

I agree with Owen. Dreams happen in a state of sleep called REM (rapid-eye movement) sleep, where the brain is just filtering, sorting or just reviewing experiences. Generally it's in a completely chaotic and random way (which explains many, many lapses and gaps that are not rational in dreams). Dreams also generally just consist of more immediate experiences, like you might see the face of some random person you met the previous afternoon, yet that person's face could be a major image in the dream, to no apparant purpose.

But I ramble. Long story short, don't put much stock in dreams. Sometimes they're nice; sometimes they're not. They're always fiction though. Unless, of course, you have precognition, in which case that's a completely different story. 😉

the hollywood brother almost thinks this is an ightmare not a fantasy there. The hollywood brother wonders if deep down you nerovus of this senorita or worried aobut someday getting too much tickling? It is possible according ot the hollywood brother that you just had bad dreams and it isn othing more but you never know if it is just a dream or is it a path leading to the twillight zone

Sorry gents, but I believe dreams are significant...you can think I'm nuts, and that's fine, but I've dreamt about each person who has died in my life in the past 7 years right before I've learned of their death...so to me, dreams have major significance, and I know all about REM sleep...took lots of psych courses in college...I know all about the scientific junk associated with dreams...and I don't buy into it...after my personal experiences with dreams, I can't believe science has any real answers in this case...so I'm concerned...and yes HB, I've worried about that girl for years...I guess I'm also worried I'm going to be outed to friends and such about my fetish...who knows?? I just hope my friend is ok...

Maybe your brain's just pullin stuff out of the back of your head and putting it into context with how your life is now (with the tickling and stuff), but who knows. This is an interesting dream, I tried to come up with something intelligent to say, but I couldn't, because obviously you're not afraid of tickling, or afraid of this girl...lol. Maybe you just started to worry about her subconsciously? I dunno. I'm grasping at straws here. I personally love dreams....but I hate when people analyze them so I apologize about that, but it's a really bad habit...

Dreams were a wierd thing for me as a kid. I never liked to dream all that much. I just remember always having nightmares about monsters or evil creatures (I was and still am a horror movie buff so that explains that). Then when I was about 7, I watched a little movie call A Nightmare On Elm Street. I instantly had a new icon. Ok, so having Freddy as a childhood hero is probably kinda demented, but I swear, as soon as I started watching Freddy movies, dressing up as Freddy on Halloween, and getting interested in the Freddy mythos (as it were), the nightmares seemed to go away. I mean, lets face it, if you are having a bad dream, but you have Freddy on your side, the bad dream doesn't stand a chance. Hell, I'm 25 now and I keep a 6ft cardboard cutout of Freddy in my bedroom. You know, he's there when I drunkenly stagger to sleep and he's there when I lurch out of bed in a storm of curses at some ungodly hour of the afternoon (Ok, so I'm odd. What do you want from me?) Anyway, Camel, I guess my advise for you is to watch Elm Street movies. They are partially responsible for the uniquishly messed up person that is I.

And now..my childhood hero...

That's what I was thinking myself. After studying many dream theories in college, my preference is for a combination of the biological activation-synthesis theory (random firing of neurons) with the Adlerian theory that dreams reflect current fears and concerns. That is to say, when the brain tries to "make sense" of the random firings, it will often do so in the context of what has been recently on one's mind.

Maybe your subconscious has picked up on the fact that one of your friends knows about your fetish? Or maybe there's some other reason that you're worried about your friends finding out about your fetish....at any rate, if you're worried about your friends finding out and hurting/teasing you as a result, your mind might have defaulted to the last time when a friend really hurt you....hence, it brought back thoughts of your bud from highschool. It's just a theory though.

I, too, put a big emphasis on dreams. I've had things come to me right before or when something is happening. It is something that I can't explain. I accept it as a gift. At the same time, I realize that every dream I have does not have meaning. (Even if the dream is disturbing.)

I can't tell you what this dream means. I think almost every ticklephile in existance has had dreams about being outted. Speaking from experience, if someone does find out (your friends... NOT your boss) you will get through it. It isn't as bad as it seems. Even if they understand, they will probably tease you after the fireworks clear.

Just my point of view.

Dreams Sort Out Problems

Mon Jan 3, 5:01 PM ET

MONDAY, Jan. 3 (HealthDayNews) -- Your dreams may offer you solutions for solving personal problems, according to a Canadian study in the December issue of the Journal of Sleep Research.

University of Alberta and University of Montreal researchers studied 470 students and found that memorable emotional events can influence dreams for up to six or seven days.

The study found that compared to dreams on the night immediately after the event, the dreams on subsequent nights were more likely to reflect interpersonal interactions, problem-solving, and positive emotions. The researchers believe that these "delayed incorporations" may help people work through personal problems.

"This suggests an ongoing effort to resolve problems in dreams during the week following the emergence of that problem. The dreams themselves are a kind of treatment," Dr. Don Kuiken, a psychology professor at the University of Alberta, said in a prepared statement.

"Something is going on there that at least touches on and alters the resolutions that people come up with," he said.

As you talked about the tub, I couldn't help but think about the movie "What Lies Beneath".

Man that movie creeped the heck outa me... (although there were some great foot shots in that movie).

Sorry, didn't mean to get off topic. Just think those old tubs with the feet are creepy for some reason.

You seem pretty intune with your feelings and thoughts so I think you'll figure out what caused the dream soon enough. If not the theories in this thread sound pretty good too. How about you call up your friend and wish her a happy newyear...that way you can put the fear of her being in trouble to rest.
As for your fear of being "outed" it's not that big of a deal... I've told lots of my frat bros about my fetishes... and they really don't care. Some might find it funny...but because I don't take it seriously... they can't take it seriously. We all just have a good laugh about it.
Happy newyear...and I hope everything works out.
