It was a typical day of work for Paul, taking inventory at the corner store he owned when suddenly a disembodied voice spoke to him. "I am the Lord Your God," it said "and as a reward for your everlasting faith I have come to take your life to a better place...but you must do exactly as I say." Paul was frightened but a very pious man and did not doubt the voice for one second. "I hear and obey O'Lord," he spoke. "Good, now the first thing you need to do is burn down your store and collect the insurance money." God told him. "But my Lord...that would be fraud and a wicked act." Paul replied. "Do not question your Lord!" the voice thundered. Paul was reluctant but did as he was told; the building went up in a blaze and Paul had over $10,000 within a fortnight.
Now with a large wad of cash and no way of supporting himself, it was only a matter of time before he ran out of funds. 'Paul" The voice of God spoke, 'You must now purchase a ticket to Las Vegas, there you will find salvation." Paul, thinking now the Lord was testing his faith, much as he tested Job's did not object and was on the first plane to Vegas that very night.
Upon arrival, Paul's senses were assulted by the bright lights of casinos and marquees. The Lord spoke to him once more 'Paul, you will now enter the nearest casino and make your way to the nearest blackjack table. Once there you will place your entire cash reserve on a single hand." This time Paul was a little more than takan aback. "Lord, if I loose I will die a broken homeless man." he pleaded. "My son, have faith in your Divine Father and it shall be rewarded." The Lord said in a comforting tone.
So Paul did as he was told and placed the remainder of his cash on a single hand. He was dealt a 19; and just as he was about to stay the Lord spoke once more 'Paul, take another card." Paul was very scared but his faith never swayed as he asked for a hit....and was dealt an ace for 20. The Lord said again "Paul, take another card." Paul's heart was beating like a jackhammer but he did as commanded.....and recieved yet another ace for a total of 21....doubling his money! The last thing he heard the Lord say was "Lucky bastard!"
