Boy kills self in front of class

In Joyce Washington a 13 year-old boy shot and killed himself in front of his classmates on Wednesday. The boy reportedly walked into a portable classroom and shot himself to death at about 10 a.m. Police decline to release the boys name due to wanting to inform the boys family first.

Not to go off on a rant here...

and this is not directed to anyone in particular...

While this is a horrible thing, that a 13 year old considers life so bad that they end it, I do not want the old "oh he heard this is a song" or "he saw it on television" arguments being brought up. We as humans have certain traits we are born with. A person whose mind is warped enough, for example, to rape someone will do so without ever seeing any pornography. The porn is simply filler until they finally do what they wated to in the first place. However, just because someone looks at porn does not make them a rapist. If this child wanted to end his life the idea sprang from within and the method was what was available.

Sorry, I just picture Tipper Gore and her ilk sitting around at the PMRC salivating at a chance to tell me something else I shouldn't listen to! I'm not saying children should be exposed to everything that adults are, just that we can't control everything they are in touch with (speaking as the father of two) and the only way to control it is to be in touch with your children and try to keep up with what is going on in their lives.

When something as tragic as this happens my first question is always "Where are the parents?" Not that they are 100% at fault for the actions of their child, but did they have a chance to do anything? And if not then I feel bad for them too.

I was not making a direct reference to you personally, if I offended I apologize also. It merely struck a nerve with me on the topic of personal responsibility. Each person is always open to their own opinion and I did not mean to make your point unimportant, just to make mine on a broader subject.

Ya know Toyou, it is interesting how society wants to put the blame on the media just because that they don't like the media. I mean a tragedy happens and they use it to push their own agendas to stop certain kinds of media. The columbine incident comes to mind, the first thing people want to do is blame Marilyn Manson for the atrocity...now we all know that Marilyn Manson was NOT present during the shootings...but his music somehow brainwashed two guys to go shoot everyone...? I don't think that makes too much sense. I play violent video games, but I don't have a need to own a gun, much less go shoot someone. The point really isn't "Media has nothing to do with the problems in the world", cuz I believe it has an impact, but the responsiblity ultimatly relys on the person commiting the crime, except for select extreme cases, this will always be the case. If a person kills him/herself, then that person had a problem. Ultimatly it was 'their' choice. No one can make you kill yourself or kill another person, and no-one can talk a sane person into doing that. What ever happened to good old fashioned 'crazy'? I don't mean that in a derogetory way, but in a very general way the person has a mental problem, period.
