The Atlanta Braves dinner went down a little sour today and dealt the Braves chances to win this division a blow. The Philadelphia Phillies have aquired Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros today. With the Phillies landing Oswalt and trailing the Braves 3 1/2 games you have to believe that the Phillies will get healthy in a big hurry. And keeping this in mind, the Braves lead the Giants by only a half game in the Wild Card race. Phillies aquiring Oswalt could have dealt the Braves playoffs a HUGE blow.

the Phils were already charging the Braves . The Oswalt trade just may have Tomahawk chopped the Braves playoff chances .

If the Braves stay healthy, they should stay in the division and wild card races. They have been slumping some lately, but were due for a slump. I have a feeling they will be right there at the end of the season.

wow...

that is a far cry from win you had them winning the World Series over the Yankees :banghead:

by the way....the Phillies are only 2 1/2 games back. So much for all those crippling Phillies injuries

Flock, you seem to forget that what happens in July and August, doesnt necessary reflect what will happen at the end of the season. The 69 Mets were 9 1-2 behind the Cubs on August 16, and won the WS. The 93 Braves were 10 behind San Fran in late July, and went to the NLCS.

As hot as the Braves were, they were due for a slump. I still believe they will make the playoffs. Time will tell.

With the National League's win in the All Star Game last night, the NL will have home field advantage in the World Series for the first time in many years.

As baseball fans know, my Atlanta Braves have the best record in the NL. I predict that they will continue to do well. With last night's win in the All Star game for the NL, I predict that the Atlanta Braves are going to win the World Series in 2010, finally beating the New York Yankees after losing to them in 1996 and 1999.

I say this for three reasons. One, the Braves are a great team this year, and have spectacular pitching. Two, The home field advantage will make the difference, and, Three, the Braves will be extra motivated, to win the Series, to send Bobby Cox into retirement with a win in the World Series.

You heard it here first, Braves over Yankees. I believe this will be so.

I think what Flock is saying is here is your prediction from three weeks ago. Here is your statement the other day. If you are going be objective, there isn't the same air of confidence in your second statement as there was in your first statement. You went from they WILL win a World Series to if they stay healthy. Very different statements!

Also keep in mind, if your team does not even go to the playoffs, you set yourself up to be picked on like Maniac and Tickle Fiend. You make suc BOLD statements, your team better cash that check you wrote. And the fact is, the Phillies and Giants and Cardinals and Padres and Dodgers are at least your equal and some are better.

My personal opinion is you won't make the playoffs. Why you might ask? Well here is why, your team has survived this season based on good seasons from Troy Glaus and timely hitting from Chipper Jones for the most part. That does not mean others have not contribute. But your young stars have not played in playoff type games. August and September grind down 25 year old guys. What will August and September do to the 35 to 38 year old uys down the stretch. And who on your starting staff other than Hudson has really played playoff type baseball? And please don't use last year because you entered September last year 7 1/2 games behind in the East. So when the pressure is on these players, how are they going to perform?

You made a clumsy statement that you will end up retracting at the end of the season in all likelyhood. And that is when Phillies fans and alike will have a fun time with you at your expense.

All I am saying is lets not crown a World Series champion in July. Especially one that hasn`t been relevant as a contender in years such as your Braves .

The Braves also didnt make any major moves as compared to the Phils getting Oswalt . And please dont compare Getting Ankiel[ ho hum; yawwwwn] to the Oswalt deal.

Mitch , you have SEVERELY backed off your statements from just a few weeks ago. You are a Braves fan and good for you if the Braves make the playoffs . But I also remember you complaining about going to see your Braves and whining about the pitching matchup that didnt favor your team .

Well, as baseball fans know, the Braves were dealt more bad news today, when third baseman Chipper Jones was found to have a torn ACL, and will need surgery, and miss the rest of the season.

In spite of this, the Braves still have a three game lead over the Phillies. The problem is, Philly is getting a lot of their injured players back. Once they do, the NL East is wide open for the taking.

This has truly become comical...

Mitchell , you were the one that had them going to the world Series and now this . Do you PURPOSELY open yourself up for people giving you a hard time about your Braves ???

I'm beginning to think you are just really more of a fair weather fan than an honest to goodness Braves fan. That honestly saddens me to think that is the case :cynical:
