Shit, it's the middle of March, and Mitch is already spiced up!
Me, I went down to watch the demolition of the Vet. Drove down to a Kinney park down on Walnut, and took the Subway down. I knew it wouldn't bother me, since the Phillies have been doing their own demolition of the place for years, but man, I've seen SO many games in that place! My most hilarious moment came during Juan Samuel's rookie year. He was playing second, and he took a Tommy Herr line drive right in the nuts! Juan Samuel was at best a clueless beast, but the Mets thought he'd be perfect in Center, displacing both Len Dykstra AND Mookie Wilson! It was always a comfort that the Phillies weren't the only team making stupid trades.
Mitch, you also should know by now that in baseball nothing's a sure thing. Would the Braves heading the pack by six or eight and a half in the middle of June REALLY surprise you? No. It wouldn't really surprise me, either, to see the Yankees struggling to find the right chemistry at that time, and Boston's pitching holding them way ahead (how strange does THAT sound?). You never know.
