Yesterday was the Atlanta Braves final game in their home ball park, Turner Field in Atlanta, which has been the Braves home field since 1997.
After only twenty years, the Braves will be leaving Turner Field, and will be moving to a new park in suburban Atlanta, called Suntrust Park, about fifteen miles north of the city.
There have been several articles in the Atlanta Journal Constitution recently stating the Braves reasoning for leaving Turner Field.
Supposedly, at the time Turner Field was built, the city of Atlanta had promised to develop the area around the ball park into a thriving sports and entertainment area, a promise, which the city supposedly never fulfilled.
Turner Field has supposedly had trouble attracting crowds, due to the fact that the area was never developed as promised, and also that the area around the ball park is supposedly dangerous.
At the time I learned of the Braves leaving Turner Field, I expressed my opinion about the idea of a baseball team leaving a ballpark that is only twenty years old. To me, such seems like a waste of space, for both Turner Field, and the new ballpark, and also of taxpayer money to build the new stadium.
Now, Turner Field is supposed to be converted for use as a college football stadium.
Thoughts on the Braves leaving Turner Field, after only twenty years of it being the Braves home field?
