LOL.....

I know this isn't a "gay" website, but I posted this on a few websites, just to see what kind of results I would get.

After you read what it's about, click the link at the end of the story for a trailer. View it, and give your opinion.

Be honest. I don't offend easily. 😉

"Brokeback Mountain"---Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger weren't drawn to "Brokeback Mountain," the story of two cowboys involved in a homosexual relationship, by the movie's risky subject matter or the controversy it may raise.

In fact, said Gyllenhaal, those aspects of the script worked against his decision to do the film.

"I read the story and heard about it as 'the gay cowboy movie' and I immediately responded against that," he said at a press conference for the film at the Toronto Film Festival Saturday.

"[But] as soon as I heard [director] Ang [Lee] was attached, I knew it would be a different type of movie that would go beyond the confines of two guys and their sexuality towards the more difficult topic of love."

Ledger agreed.

"First and foremost, when I read the script it was one of the most beautiful stories I'd ever read," he said. "It's really refreshing to come across something like that."

So far, viewers have agreed. "Brokeback Mountain," based on a story by "Shipping News" author E. Annie Proulx, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival Saturday, that festival's top award, and has earned acclaim at Toronto. The film is slated for U.S. release December 9.

The film, which begins in the early '60s, concerns two young men, Ennis Del Mar (Ledger) and Jack Twist (Gyllenhaal), who are hired to tend sheep for a summer in Wyoming and find themselves attracted to each other. They continue to meet with each other over the years, even after their lives have gone in different directions.

Asked a question about the U.S. gay marriage controversy, the two actors said they hope the film shows a gay relationship in a matter-of-fact, unsensational light and that it contributes to tolerance.

"If it does shed light on the idea that there's real love involved ... it's great," said Gyllenhaal. "When two people love each other, they love each other. And people should hold on to it as hard as they can, whether it's homosexual or heterosexual."

Gyllenhaal added said the actors' own friendship -- and the quality of the script, by novelist Larry McMurtry ("Lonesome Dove") and Diana Ossana -- helped them do the love scenes.

"Once you see the characters 'do it,' our real friendship and the things we share together makes it kind of easy to play the role of real friends," he said. "And the screen sex -- we kind of just dove into the love scenes and dove out again just as fast as we could." He paused to some laughter. "And that was it."

Director Lee's previous films include "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "The Ice Storm," "Sense and Sensibility" and "The Hulk."

if I were the sort of person to go to movies I'd definately see it. Unfortunately I never seem to make it to the theater for a movie. It does sound interesting though. If it were on tv I'd try to catch it.

My only hesitation would be because I'm not typically a fan of westerns. But I've seen the trailer and it looks pretty great, and all the actors--not just the two guys but also the women playing their wives--look good.

I will definitly see it, not because it's a western but because it shows gays in an all American backdrop. You see my youngest son is gay and after watching the turmoil he went through in his pre-teen years due to the shortsighted views of his peers this movie may show that being gay is just a sexual preference and doesn't mean you can't fit into American society. After all our own preference to tickling might deem us abnormal in some people's eyes. So "screw em"!

Sorry. I am a Texan, born and bred, and if there's one thing I cannot stand, it's a goldurn sheepherder!

I have to say, I am not a "movie go-er", maybe once a year. I had heard of Anne Hathaway, but never seen her.

She's very pretty.

This movie opens tonight. I'll have to find a place in NJ that's playing it.

Well, I saw this movie on Monday....it is great!

I saw it in NJ, and at a theater in a city that is not "gay".....(ex-not The Village in NYC) and the crowd was very straight, and surprisingly, older couples (in their 60-70's)

It was sold out, and at this theater, tickets for "Brokeback" were selling faster than tickets for the other 3 movies playing "Good Night & Good Luck", "Munich" and "Memiors Of A Geisha".

there is a "raw" scene in the first hour, but after that, it's rather tame, and I must say, it was funny to hear all the str8's in the theater "sniffing" and crying at a "gay cowboy" movie.

If you are curious about this film, you should seriously consider seeing it. it's worth the ticket price.

To give you a brief shot of the success the movie has had so far, it's currently the #8 movie in America, ahead of new movies like Munich, The Ringer, The Producers, Wolf Creek, Syriana. On top of that, Brokeback is getting this success with less exposure/theaters.

Here is a list of the movies, and the number of theaters they are in....

THE RINGER 1,853
MUNICH 532
THE PRODUCERS 978
WOLF CREEK 1,761
SYRIANA 1,725

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN 269

The film cost approximately $14,000,000.00 to make, and in it's 27 days out, it has made $16,398,000.00, so it's already made a profit, without going into nationwide release. In 4 of the 27 days it was out, it did over $1,000,000.00 in ticket sales.

If you want to see an actual breakdown of the business it's done day to day, you can see it here at this link....

and lastly, here is my fave image from the film....

I really hope that was said in jest...it's just a love story...and Hillary had nothing to do with this...she's too busy putting her time and effort into combating violent video games...what a waste...

That being said, I will definitely see the film...as soon as it is released in Pittsburgh. I've heard wonderful reviews of the movie from people of every background, age, gender, orientation...I love cowboys, I ADORE the two male leads (I'd switch teams for either one...), love stories are fabulous...and I am a huge fan of any form of media that portrays members of the GLBT community in a positive light...

Now if they'd hurry up and release it in Pittsburgh, I could offer you my opinion...

Cell--you rock my world. Just had to share that with you, my rainbow clad brother...😉

Plumr--reading what you wrote made me so happy...your son has no idea how lucky he is to have such an accepting parent...that just gave me some hope for my own parents...thank you...

I saw this film last night and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't see this as a "gay cowboy" film. It's a simple love story about two people who, for reasons not really explaines, fall in love with each other.

But the film is sooooo boring. I really like love stories. And I love dramatic scenary in films. But this movies is taking the p1ss. I thought the acting was horrific, the direction was terrible and the sound was atrocious. And I think the story itself was just badly written.

I think it's sad that this film is getting so much press because it's been used as a pawn in the whole Gay/anti-gay holy war that seems to be going on in america. It's just a film. And a bad film at that. Watch it if you like love stories and don't watch it if you don't.

too bad the polls are closed. i'd like to see this for sure. whenever i see a gay/lesbian couple on tv or movie, it's a really beautiful story, from Buffy with willow and tara, to an episode of dead like me (which was a great episode). i always end up wanting to cry, or going "awwwww!"

so yep, gonna see it.

Lesbian Yes

BI Female yes (though there's really no such thing as a Bi Male)

Otherwise no, I won't watch it, nor will I watch any movies by an actor who is involved in it.

no such thing as a bi male? i doubt it...

but i'm glad to see you'd like to see the movie :tounge:

Seems like a gimmicky film to me, and that is why it will not get money from me. I'm more than sure this film's story did not necessarily have to be told in the context it was, therefore it's done in excess. It's like it is forced.

Sorry Norm. I originally posted the thread back in Oct, when I first heard about the film, and it seemed silly to keep the poll open for so long.

I'm not sure why you say it's "gimmicky". Do you say that because it's about two gay men?

To give a little background on this movie, it is taken from a short story that was published in 1999, written by Annie Proulx, a straight, married woman.

The story was turned over to Larry McMutry & Diana Ossana. Both straight, McMutry is known as an author, who wrote The Last Picture Show, In A Narrow Grave, Terms Of Endeament, Lonesome Dove, Texasville. Ossanna has written or executive produced Boone's Lick, Father Knows Best, Pretty Boy Floyd.

It is directed by Ang Lee, a Taiwanese director, (straight, married to a microbiologist, father of 2) has since the mid 90's produced a string of critically acclaimed and successful movies. "Pushing Hands", "The Wedding Banquet", "Eat Drink Man Woman", "Sense and Sensibility", "The Ice Storm", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", and "The Hulk".

well more than would go, is have to go, my gf is making me go with her, yes whiped all the way.......hhaha, well the lil perv has an obsesion with guys kissing guys and stuff specially handsome manly guys, she said and i quote "heath ledger and the other guy, dressed as cowboys, kissing, this is going to be like porn to me !!" well whatever floats her boat....

I don't watch this sort of movie... I need either action or humor to find a movie entertaining. People sitting around and talking about their feelings dosen't really do anything for me.

ROTFLMAO

That is toooo funny!

I watched the trailer and I must say, this looks like an okay movie. I've heard about it for a while, but until I saw the trailer, I never really felt like seeing it. But it looks okay. I don't say really AWESOME, because I know from experience that trailers can be misleading. 😛 But from what I see, it really looks great. And that trailer itself clenched my heart.

Yes, I am aware of how cliched and corny that sounds, but I'm a softy when it comes to matters of the heart, and that movie sure looks like it has heart. And OMFG, I was watching Much TV with my sister when they did this special on the Hottest Guys in the world... I can't remember the exact title... But Jake Gyllenhaal was number one and it bugged me forever, because I recognized his face from somewhere but I could never remember where... Then I saw this trailer and I remembered that he plays in October Sky, which is one of my favourite movies of all times.

So the fact that good ol' Jake plays in Brokeback Mountain is even more incentive to go see it. 😛 Oh, and sithjd? My sister has the same view as your girlfriend: if two guys are making out, and the two guys are hot, my sister would watch it all day. (I think she's weird, but to each her own, I guess). 🙂

I live in Canada and I don't think it's been released up here yet. 🙁 Which sucks, because I'd like to see it. I have nothing against homosexuals or movies about that. My view is: if it's a good movie, then I'll like it. And I REALLY need to see a good movie, because there has been a lot of bad movies lately... 😛

So bring it up in Canada and I will see it no prob. 😛 I hope it's as good as the trailer. 😛

I believe it's supposed to be released in Canada in the near future.

As for women watching two guys.........I know a few women who have mentioned that. If guys can be turned on by two women, why not for women to be turned on by two guys?
