I am in the process of building a gaming computer, and wanted to show off my ideas. What does everyone think?

ASUS PCI-E motherboard
AMD 64 bit FX-55 Processor
4GB DDR RAM
(2) Western Digital Raptop Hard drives @ 10,000 RPMs
(2) nVidia GeForce 6600GT SLI video cards (linked together)

Amongst a few other things, that's the basic idea.

Pretty decent, indeed! What type of DDR ram is it and how fast? Are you going to put on a large either Serial ATA or old ATA HDD (maybe 200-300 Gb) on for graphic and movie file storage? What OS(es) are you going to install? Any DVD burners? Flat panel or CRT? 7.1 speakers and accompanying sound card? Gigabit LAN? Sorry, I went all geek on ya. LOL. Good luck!

Smiley,
uber-nerd 😀

Probably DDR2, if not just 400Mhz. No, I am only using two 74GB SATA Raptors, for their speed, not for their size. Thsi is a gaming machine, not a movie watcher. Windows XP Pro (and eventually longhorne). One Dual layer DVD burner, accompanied by a DVD/CD ROM. Headphones. 20" CRT.

This is a gaming machine, not a movie watcher.

The processor gave that away 😉

Seriously, that looks like it will have some serious muscle. All of the stuff I have read about those video cards is great; those things mean business.

Imagine seeing Counter Strike: Source or Doom3 running with full graphics at about 40 fps.

wow

I builtn mine about a year and a half ago,,, my specs are AMD 2800+, shuttle an35n 400 and a little over a gig of ram, and i have yet to see a game hurt it, i think this goes hand in hand that i put a radeon 9800 pro vid card in it, but at 4 gigs of ram, you will be fine for a long while hahaha I AM JEALOUS!
