.....poor old president, I felt very sorry for him, he goes to all that trouble, all the cloak and dagger stuff to get there, the risk that if discovered he may have to turn the plane round in mid flight, the worry that he may be attacked or shot down, the fact he misses Thanks giving at home with his folks and what does he get in return from the troops?...every time he finishes a paragraph of his speech and leaves a gap for applause, what does he get? the sound of a room full of grunts puking up their Turkey......well, thats what it sounds like to me, what the hell are they doing? what happened to cheering and clapping?

LOL I'm assuming you're refering to all the "hooahhs" going on? I was VERY surprised when I saw the news last night. I'm glad he got to do it. I think it was a much needed moral boost for our guys to have him come and share the sentiments of the nation with them.

I thought Bush's move was KICK ASS!

What an awesome show over the insurgents in Iraq.

And like Ann said, what a morale boost!

I don't think you would have seen Clinton in Iraq...although you might argue that Clinton wouldn't have gone to "war" with Iraq either.

I might point out to you all...........

.......that Blair has been to Iraq many times already, its not really that big a deal to visit the troops is it? after all Bush is the commander in chief, he should have been over there a LONG while back.

A morale booster for the troops? Certainly!

Did it take guts? You bet!

Will it sway opinion polls in his favor at home a mere 12 months before the next election? What do you think?

As Red Indian pointed out, and as many of us have noted before, Mr. Blair has been there, gone home, been there, gone home, etc. ad nauseum. Could Mr. Blair have gotten tired of repeatedly putting his carcass in the fire while Mr. Bush strays between the White House and his Half-of-Texas ranch? Wouldn't YOU?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Bush-Basher, nor am I a fan. He hasn't done a bad job as Pres, nor has he done a great job. He's surely done a better job than his Daddy did. And I also realize that altho any self-respecting terrorist in his right mind (THERE's an oxy-moron!) would love to cap Mr. Blair, Mr. Bush is still the #1 target. I just can't help but wonder if he took as many bodyguards to Iraq as he did to London?

I didn't see the footage. What did he say to the troops? "Uh, the war is not really over...I was just kidding last Spring, you know me, I'm a cut up, just like my Dad!"
Know what I remember? I remember LBJ making public appearances ONLY at military installations, in his waning days as President. One of many Deja Vu things.

I don't know about terrorists wanting to CAP Blair, I WANT TO! :blaugh:

Personally I think Shrub's move couldn't have been better timed. It was possibly one of the best PR moves I've ever seen. And while the only reason I'd stop next to Dubya if he was on fire, would be to throw petrol on him; I'm glad the troops there found it such a boost.

BigJim,I couldn't aggre more I feel the same way about Senator Hillary Clinton's visit to Afghanistan All just a PR stunt to let people think they actually care about the troops

Hilary Clinton has her beady eyes set on power, make no mistake! Any publicty opportunity is good for her! Shame she couldn't have done more for the image of her lying, arsehole of a husband who couldn't have kept his dick in his pants if his life depended on it.

(Mind you, his dick had more political acumen than his head did. See one of the questions in my "How American are you???" thread.)

While I am normally not a Bush liker per say, I can approve of this. While you may say it was simply a PR stunt, and I'm not totally denying it, it was still a good thing, and I'll back him up on it.
