The Good Guys embarked on their California road trip. Things went unusually well. They won six of the nine games played on the trip, taking two of three games at each stop of a San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles road trip. They returned home, on a Sunday night at midnight, to begin a nine game homestand, their last of the year.
During the series finale that Sunday in Los Angeles, Mitch strained his shoulder while swinging at a pitch. Then, things got worse when he tried to throw the ball in the outfield, and his shoulder and forearm became stiff. The six hour flight home from California to Nassau didn't help matters. The air conditioning vents on the plane were blowing on Mitch's neck and shoulder, causing the stiffness to worsen. When Mitch got home to Paradise, he found Naomi wanting sex, but he could not oblige: "I can't move my shoulder. My whole shoulder and arm are stiff. I need to take a raincheck, and see if I can even play tomorrow night". Mitch said. That night, Mitch had a sleepless night, and he awoke on Monday not feeling any better. He went to the ballpark that afternoon, and got treatment for his shoulder. The therapy did not work. Thursday was an off day. That day, the couple showed up to counesling with not much to say. "The whole story now revolves around whether I can feel better. Naomi and I arent fighting. I've just got to get better for the playoffs" Mitch said.
The Phillies came to town on Friday night. Rachel Leigh Cook got destroyed by them, allowing five solo homers, in a 5-1 setback. Hayden had the ball on Saturday night, and pitched a really great game. She allowed only two runs in eight innings, and the Good Guys broke a 2-2 tie with a two run homer, for a 4-2 win, that put them on the doorstep of the division title. Paradise would crash through the door and claim the title on Sunday afternoon, a bright, breezy, 80 degree September day, in front of a sellout. Gil Bellows allowed only one run in his eight innings, striking out ten, as Parsdise rallied from a 1-0 defciit, to score three eighth inning runs, and take the lead. Kate Hudson was on the mound in the ninth, and put the Phillies away, for the 3-1 Good Guy win, that clinched them a spot in the playoffs. The team had three more regular season games to go against the Reds, with improving health the top goal.
The Reds entered Paradise on Monday, for the final regular season games. Charlize Theron pitched on Monday night, and gave up three solo homers, en route to a 3-0 loss. Neve Campbell had the ball on Tuesday night, and didnt fare any better, allowing four runs, as the Good Guys committed three errors, in a 6-4 setback. Hayden pitched the regular season finale on Wednesday, a bright, 79 degree day, in front of a sellout. Mitch entered the clubhouse that morning, and after being out for eight games, told manager Elmont Koehler he wanted to play to get live swings before the playoffs. Koehler obliged, and Mitch got two singles. Meanwhile, Hayden pitched six strong innings, allowing only one run, as the bullpen finished for her, and the Good Guys finished the regular season with a 6-4 win, and their final homestand of the year at four wins, five losses. The featured lee would be that night's male home plate umpire, who would be tickled by the female pitchers on the Good Guys. The ump was tied hands and feet to the tickle table, in his boxer shorts, as the pitchers surrounded him.
