California divided into three states.

I can't speak for California, but every few years the same issue comes up here. It's in the news for a few weeks or months then fades away and nobody takes it too seriously. And even if enough people in California voted for a split my understanding is it would have to be approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. My guess is the chance of that happening is somewhere between slim and none.

Exactly, the same arguments are made when states have areas with very different levels of income and political viewpoints; it's been kicked around in Oregon, here in Colorado, etc.

I would use the word "tribes" and not "states." There is nothing special when it comes to California.

Always jealous of California...The best state in the nation. We are not going to split.

California...knows how to party!

Back to Bugman and Texas - I remember in the 80's the talk of seceeding so they could join OPEC. That went nowhere. But, California is a different beast - lotsa crazies there (I lived there for 5 years.....). And yes, Congress has to approve it..... Would there be an armed revolt if not approved? Another civil war? (Remember, there's a lot of important military bases in California)

I live in San Francisco, and frankly, I hope the state never gets divided up

Yeah, I remember that. It was good for a laugh and nothing else.

Ha, I doubt it would come to that. 😉
