Do you get many of these call centres in the USA were you end up talking to a computer or person in asia, who can't fully converse or fix the problem.

In the UK we get a lot of this and the press 1 to learn how many buttons fall off your shirt type of thing.

Also they advertise their rotten products while your waiting to to be put through and all the time your paying for the call.

Yeah we never get to people who speak English as their first language. Hey, I understand that people gotta eat, but we have plenty of out of work people here who can pick up a telephone and ask me if my computer is plugged in and crap like that.

Do Pakestanis need to call South America for their tech support?

I work in a call center for a delivery company, and I thought people would be thankful to speak to an English-speaker, but I've had some real abuse over that phone. One woman even told me it was my fault that it was snowing. Crazy, crazy people. @_@

So YOU'RE the reason we got 8 inches of the white stuff last week! Phooey on you!!! 🙂

We used to have a telemarketing firm about 8 miles from here. Then about 5 years ago, they went bye-bye. Not surprising. Why pay an American $7.15 an hour (or whatever the McWage is now) for that kind of work when you can pay someone halfway across the globe less than half of that?

I think it’s not only corporations’ never-ending quest to have things done as cheaply as possible, but their traditional the-public-be-damned/the-customer-is-the-enemy mindset. Nothing like talking to a non-English speaker who’s reading from scripts to confound and frustrate customers with legitimate questions and complaints which the scripts don’t cover. Unfair not just to us but to the poor slobs in Manila or Bangalore who have to bear the brunt of the anger of irate customers.
