Can books have an adverse effect on you?

I've had this deep fascination for desert landscapes ever since I've read the first Dune book. So, to answer the question: YES!

They actually do have a fairly adverse effect on me...Whenever I read one my eyes get heavy and I lose consciousness! Ahh I'm just kidding. Some of my best friends are books.

Kill John Lenon, kill John Lenon!

Seriously though i think South Park answers this question well enough, aside from actual political propaganda, when it comes to works of fiction, unless they are explicit in their meaning, we all like to infer our own views and ideas upon those work reading what isn't there.

Maybe Star Trek is a leftist marxist diatreb or maybe it's just wacky sci-fi fun, who knows for certain, Gene Roddenberry did but he's dead now so hollywood can piss on his creation.
