Can you guess what and where this building is?

This is the New Cook County Correctional Center , Chicago , Illinois
With three of the last six governors in jail, it better be nice.
Better than being homeless!
It also shows that in most cases the quality of life for prisoners has improved considerably from what you might expect.
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this comparison chart should make things a little bit clearer:

@ PRISON
You spend most of your time in a 10X10 cell
@ WORK
You spend most of your time in a 6X6 cubicle
@ PRISON
You get three fully paid for meals a day
@ WORK
You get a break for one meal, and you have to pay for it
@ PRISON
For good behavior, you get time off
@ WORK
For good behavior, you get more work
@ PRISON
The guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you
@ WORK
You must carry a security card and open all the doors yourself
@ PRISON
You can watch TV and play games
@ WORK
You could get fired for watching
TV and playing games
@ PRISON
You get your own toilet
@ WORK
You have to share the toilet with
people who pee on the seat
@ PRISON
They allow your family and friends to visit
@ WORK
You aren't even supposed
to speak to your family
@ PRISON
All expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required on your part
@ WORK
You must pay all your expenses to go
to work, and they deduct taxes from
your salary to pay for prisoners
@ PRISON
You spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out
@ WORK
You spend most of your time wanting
to get out and go inside bars
@ PRISON
You must deal with sadistic wardens
@ WORK
They are called 'managers'
THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS

Well in both those scenarios the people have only themselves to blame for where they are. As least if your job is shitty you can leave. Freedom is the greatest luxury.

Anyway, you linked the pictures wrong.

It's a bit early, and I'm just having my first cup of coffee. My thoughts were that the building was kind of too nice for a prison. I always pictured prisons being a bit more grungy, and I resent having to pay taxes to build extra nice buildings for convicts.

That is the point I was trying to make.

Its kind of annoying. But we're really paying to keep them out of society, not punish them. A lot of people end up institutionalized, but most are miserable in prison no matter how nice it is.

I've never spent time in this particular prison, or any prison, so I don't know a lot of convicts or what they feel. I think this prison is too fancy. :zomgrabbit:

I think the pictures she linked are on the site I posted. I have to admit thats a damn nice prison.

Well, no pics so I guess the post I was trying to make lost most of it's point. But, *sigh* it is what it is. Thanks for the link fire sprite.

No matter how nice the building might be, prison is still prison and not a pleasant place. Paranoia, fear and mistrust are constant companions. Rest assured that if someone does something for you they expect something in return, and what they want is often something you would rather not think about. I know people who have done hard time.

Thats where my father is being relocated to be a chief.. he is currently a cheif for Statesville Correctional in Joilet Illinois

I can make it happen. just molest me, and ill call the cops on you. :bowing:

:neenerneener:
Well, I fixed the pics. I was just so surprised at how the building was decorated. It seemed lavish for a prison.

Bugaboo,
I would have no idea how difficult prison can be, and I never meant to imply that it wasn't awful. I'd just never seen a prison like this one. :redheart:

My workplaces are nowhere near as spiffy as those "schools for crime".

Personally,I think prisons should be like those tent prison like the one sheriff runs out in Arizona

looks more like a vacation getaway then a prison dang dude

We have rehabilitation programs for helping people reintegrate back into society, not prisons that have ping pong tables and relatively open space.

Granted, Im assuming that this is not a max security prison, but the fact remains that while most of us ARE at work having our tax dollars taken away, the residents of this particular prison are still enjoying a relatively free time.
