I don't know if anyone else noticed, but over the last few seasons is Robinson Cano one of the top 5, if not top 3 best all around hitters in the American League? His numbers are up there no doubt, but I think playing for the Yankees with A-rod and Teixeira people tend to overlook Cano's consistency. He's got 8 homeruns right now and is around .400 average.

Cano is really, really good. Top-3 2B in the AL.

As per his ranking in ALL of the AL, I don't know. There are alot of good players in the league (Mauer, Longoria, Cabrera...) so I don't know.

He might be having one of the better Aprils in the American League. We'll see if he can keep up the torrid pace. I have been impressed from what I've seen, even if he is a Yankee. 🙂

He is one of the smoothest 2B in baseball. Good glove, great range and a great arm. Has been projected to win a battling title one year and also projected to hit 20, 30 HR's a year... Bad news for the AL East, TEX, AROD and CANO 3,4, and 5!

Bad news of the friggin Rays would learn to lose again. I cannot stand the Rays because they are this basically joke team that is barely a step up from a minor league ball club. What pisses me off is that they'll be exactly like the florida marlins and have a few good seasons because they're young and fast, but then come contract time.....puff......where did all the heavy hitters go??

Ummm...this is why they signed Zobrist and Longoria to long term deals. You should like the Rays. They do it the right way. The raise them and then they pay them. The Yankees with some exceptions ( Jeter, Cano, Posada, Rivera ) buy them. If the Yankees had to do it the Rays did it ( that is why we need a salary cap ), they probably would never get out of their own way.

As far as Cano being one of the top three hitters in the AL, slow down. One GREAT month. It will give you something here. By the way, I have Cano on about 8 of my Fantasy teams so I think HIGHLY of him.

Cano Migual Cabrera
33/81 30/91
21 runs 15 runs
8 HRs 5 HRs ( 3 hit in the 9th inning to tie or win games )
17 RBI 25 RBI
6 Walks 13 Walks
.407 BA .330 BA
1.234 OPS 1.023 OPS

Now, I point Miggy out because, who has Miggy's back? Who's his A-Rod? Who is his Teixeria?

Yet all that Miguel Cabrera does is continue to be clutch. Like I said, big fan of Cano and he is a good hitter. But top three in the AL? When there is a Mauer, Longoria, Miggy, Teixeira, A-Rod, Jeter. Heck, he might not even be top three on his own team. But I can see Cano being a top five hitter in the AL in a couple of years. I can definately see that. Good thread!

Didn't they sign Longoria and Zobrist to extensions? And give Pat Burrell a big contract?

It's true that they run their organization in the Billy Beane 'Moneyball' mindset, but considering that it has worked for teams like the A's, Fish and Twins, I don't get the hate.

Tampa is clearly a better organization than KC, Pittsburgh, Washington, San Diego, New York (NL), or Houston (just to name a few).

They certainly lack prestige and history, but they're quickly becoming one of the best-run franchises in the league.

I, too, usually don't like expansion teams (of the last 10-15 years) in any sport, but I've come make exceptions in most cases now except for the terribly run NHL (Hockey doesn't belong in the South) and the NBA (Charlotte, Memphis and OKC...? Really?).

Don't let your allegiance to the old AL East teams fool you, the Rays are a good franchise. At least they make things interesting unlike the O's or Jays. 😀

I would also like to point out that I refuse to watch anything with the NBA. By the way, until I flipped on a playoff game, I had no idea that there was a time in Oklahoma City, and that is the honest to god truth.

You just gained 1,000 points in my book. :goodjob:

If you happen to dislike Kobe Bryant (and/or the Lakers) I'll push it to 1,500! 😀

You obviously don't watch basketball because I've never seen any of the four-hour games you're referring to. It takes 2-and-a-half hours for a basketball game.

I can tell you what my real problem is with the Rays and most florida teams. They are not real fan bases. The parks don't sell out unless the team is in the playoffs, and that is only because the other team's fans go down to watch the games. It's ridiculous that a team with no history and no fan base can be a contender, and it continues to be a tough pill for me to swallow. Unless you were born in like 1998 you can not say you were a lifetime Rays fan, and I highly doubt anyone is a converted Rays fan. I once talked to a guy in Disneyworld a few years ago, and he was from Miami. He told me that there are really no such things as real team fans in florida and most just go to the games to watch the other team. With that it just pisses me off that we build sporting venues where the home city could give a rats ass. And to make it worse, without a fan base they win games.

Back when the Yankees first came into the league in 1901 they were the Baltimore Orioles. When the team moved to New York, they were the Highlanders. There was no history or fan base. A team has to start somewhere. Don't begrudge the start of any history. Because there is no history for anything or anyone. The Rays and the Marlins will do well once their new parks are built ( though when the Rays get theirs your guess is as good as mine. )
