As you may know, there's no general speed limit on German autobahns (highways). So far, German car producers have voluntarily agreed to build in an automatic speed limiter which cuts off at 250 km/h (ca. 155 mph).
But this agreement has expired a while ago, and Porsche had never subscribed to it. Now Mercedes, BMW, and Audi want to abandon this speed regulation, too. Their top cars are able to go at 200 mph anyway.
Personally, I find this unnecessary and dangerous. Because of the usually heavy traffic, speeds above 100 mph are impossible anyway. And Germany is the only country without a general speed limit on the autobahns, all the neighbors forbid speeds above 65-80 mph. So the only reason to buy such a car is bragging macho behavior, IMO.
