Hi, I'm new here; this is the first thread I've ever started.

I know the moderators will agree with the goal of making the chat room a welcoming place for everyone. Where is the appropriate forum to discuss matters pertaining to this? Via pm?

Thanks.

sabaki,
If its a general question you could post it here, perhaps other members are having probelms as well and dont want to voice it, but could and would learn from reading it.

If it is a personal problem, or someone pestering you or being way to forward and they dont understand the words "leave me alone", then it is always best to handle it in a PM to a Mod.
All the Mods here are great and will handle the situation tactfully and discreetly.
No need to start a "jumping and dumping on" bandwagon in the General Section.
I would certainly PM either Myriads (Im pretty sure he handles a lot in the chat room) or any other Mod here...they are all willing and happy to help.

I hope that helps you....and welcome to the forum, I hope rest of your expierences here are better than the one you had that made you post this.

Rob

Hi sabaki, I'm Mitch. Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are having some problems in the chat.
One solution that the mods often have for abuse in the chat is the ignore button. If it is just one, two, or three people whom you are having problems with, click on their name with your mouse cursor, and push the button that looks like the no smoking sign in the upper right hand corner. This will place those individuals on ignore, so you dont have to see their chatter, and so they cannot private chat you and say anything. I've been here nearly four years, this is a practice I use, and it works.
Hope that helps, and that you can enjoy the chat more.

Mitch

Hello sabaki,
I'm Helena. It's nice to meet you. Welcome to the forum.
Mitch's suggestion was a good one to use if someone is specifically bothering you.
Rob's advice was also really good if you are being harassed.
Finding your way around a new chat room can be a little intimidating. It takes a while to get to know people. Until you get familiar with other users, I would suggest not entering into private chats with people you don't know.

Oh, I get it, Maniac. The redness in your eyes indicate mace...or perhaps, pepper spray? :firedevil

Yes, the imbecility of the Ignorami who frequent the chat room is well known...the best thing you can do is ignore them. They certainly merit no better status.

You assume I'm talking about a simple matter of PC'ing somebody unwanted. That is not abuse. It may be rude or uncouth, but it's not abuse.

Abuse in this case is targetting and insulting a user for your own amusement, like a bully. If you see someone doing this to your friend, don't just ignore the bully, or PM a mod. I say, stick up for your friend! That's option number 3.

Just my opinion, of course. And obviously sometimes it's not worth it. You pick your fights.

In this case, I did stick up for the person. But nothing came of it, and it was very upsetting to me. Hence posting here. In the long run it's not a big deal, of course, but there is a small chance someone will have a change of heart.

Thanks for your welcomes, everybody. 🙂 I should make a real intro post, once I overcome my shyness.
