Far be it for me to NOT pick on the lovable losers from Chicago. But in this case I am not going to pick on them. Yes, this is their 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY since winning a World Series. But that is not what this is about.
This season ( probably April ) the Cubs will join the San Francisco Giants to be the ONLY teams to have won 10,000 games. This is quite an accomplishment. Right now the Chicago Cubs have 9,985 wins. And while they have been tagged the lovable losers they have lost 9,459 games in their entire history. That gives the Cubbies a .514 winning percentage which is sixth on the all-time baseball list.
So forge forward and join the Giants as the two winningest franchises in the history of the sport. Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs!!!
As a side note: The Dodgers ( 9876 wins ) and Cardinals ( 9843 wins ) will hit 10,000 in 2009. The Braves ( 9696 wins ) will get to 10,000 in 2011. The Reds ( 9672 wins ) will get there in 2011 if they average 82 wins a season for the next 4 years, otherwise it will be 2012. Pittsburgh has 9624 wins and will reach 10,000 wins in 2012.
Once again, Congratulation to the Cubs on their pend 10,000th win.
