This is a warm up for the things to come, a rough sketch. I haven't drawn anything in some time and I needed to draw something before I approach the handful of requests I have been asked of.

Chun-Li was one of the first few characters I had draw when I first started my group. Since then I have only drawn her a couple times (to my recollection). So I thought it was time to revisit this classic Street Fighter character. So here she is, in one of her more recent fighting oufits, striking a pose.

You'll notice I made her more realistic looking than what fanart usually portrays fighting girls as. I did give her body tone and muscles, but made sure to maintain her femininity in the process.

Enjoy. I sure did drawing her. 🙂

Wow, thank you very much Falcon. 🙂

And don't worry, Ms. Xiang will get hers sooner or later. 😀 After her having tickled Cammy in my now classic tickle picture, its only natural that Cammy's gonna want herself a piece of Chun-Li! 😀

That's really good for a rough sketch. I like how you did the definition and shape of her.

Thanks. Much appriciated. 🙂 As my skills have been growing, I've been making more of a concious effort toward making the bodies look more natural and realistic. And since this girl is fit and solid and is a fighter, this is as realistic as I'd imagine it can get. 🙂

Chun-Li also one of my fav female characters. Thanks for drawing her Celtic. Nice job.

That's a very good image, Celtic, and I do like how you chose to give her some muscle tone to show she's a 'fighter'. 😉

Also glad you didn't make her the thigh-monster Capcom did in the SF III series...she's frightening there. ^^

@ TM- Thanks alot. She's one of my favorites too. 🙂

@ Khali- Thanks alot. 🙂

Yeah, it just wouldn't have seemed like her and it wouldn't have been natural if she didn't have any muscle or firmness at all. Given her profession and this "street fighting" she does on the side, it wouldn't make sense for her to be this typical anime looking girl. She's an accomplished woman, both professionally, intellectually, spiritially, and of course physically. Her body should show that determination, and her face and eyes are should mirror her personality and gentleness at all times.

Anything less would not by Chun-Li Xiang.

As far as Capcom is concerned, I agree. They make her look to masculine in those ones, especially Cammy White. While Cammy is as thin as a willow, she's got this unattractive six pack, just like a man. I made sure to give Chun-Li some stomach muscle, but not to define it so much. And Chun-Li, as you mentioned, has these huge legs and bulky thighs in the official art. While its true that Chun-Li works out those areas of her body probably most of all (since she's a kicker as opposed to puncher), they needn't overdo it like that.

I'm assuming this is just a problem with the official art. In the games it doesn't seem to be a problem. Either way, I love them all. 🙂

@ the artists-

Heres a free tip, from me to you 😉 -

If you want to successfully draw a fighting gal who looks fit, has muscles, is realistic looking and yet doesn't look masculine and is still cute and sexy heres what you do-

1.)No matter what, keep their waist thin. This is sensual, and even if they have stomach muscles or thick thighs this is feminine and will maintain that femininity you want. Don't overdo it though, and keep proportions in mind.

2.)Longate her torso. Simply just draw her torso area a bit longer. This is also sensual and feminine, and when combined with step one works really well in maintaining a feminine look. Use my picture as an example of what I mean.

3.) Last but not least, give them an attractice face! If its a cute character, like Sakura for example, then draw them that way, etc. Hand gestures, body language, facial expressions, girlish mannerisms and blushing all only some of the things you can add to make the character cute and sexy, yet still ready to kick some ass!

And don't be afraid to draw them in non-fighting clothes and situations. This carrys over well as it shows us they do have lives aside the tournament fighting. There are several beautiful pictures of Chun-Li in traditional chinese clothing for example, and I'd highly recommend finding them and using them as references. Anything you can do to enhance the personality and show others that they arent just fighters is key to maintaining the wholesomeness of the fighting gals. 🙂

😀 Thanx for the tips CE! I like your version of Chun-li Xiang. She is a welcome blast from the past. The makers of Dead or Alive video game series should hire you for the preliminary sketches. 😀

You're welcome, friend. 🙂

Me? Work professionally for game designers as an original concept artist? The thought has crossed my mind, but honestly, I don't think I'm cut out for it. Art seems better suited as a hobby for me than a professional. While I'm not ruling anything out, its not so much what I want to do anymore. I'm currently more interested in voice acting and plan to pursue that on the side. I've got alot of creative energy to give and all my life I've been good at voices and such. I think voice acting, while it may not be my career, will be my niche. People tell me I have a charisma. And if I can bring that charisma into what I do, that would be wonderful.

Art is my baby, and it almost feels wrong to sell it. Right now it just feels like something I'd rather share in small quantities with people I know as opposed to making a buck off of it and going professional. And professionally, you have to draw what you are hired to draw. There isn't as much freedom as there is now, as I am. I can draw whatever I want, whereas for a company, I have to draw their vision and what they want, whether I like it or not. While I'm sure I'd have some say in the process, and my opinons would weigh heavily, its ultimately the choice of those above me to accept or discard my designs, characters, and ideas. I would rather pull all the strings myself than to have someone else have that ability over me. I'd sooner take a commission now, than to go professional and earn a wage. Thats right now though. Who knows what the good Lord has in store for me. 🙂

Indeed, I prefer her Alpha duds better than the thigh-monster Capcom used for SF II and SF III! ^^

Not to mention it makes tickling her all the more enjoyable, as shown in my first tic-fic! 😉

Of course. Theres hardly anything attractive, in my opinion, of a muscle-bound manly woman. Especially in sensual, cute situations such as innocent tickling. Something I'm reknowned for as are others. Even in a more adult setting I don't think it would work or fit in. Although it might fit in just right in a prison sort of atmosphere...but lets not go there! Ain't no butch or dike in Chun-Li! 😱 😛 🙄

WARNING: Geekdom ahead

It's a really good picture!

Don't get me wrong!

Just... her last name isn't Xiang.
All things pertaining to live action movie must be destroyed! 😉

Thanks. 🙂

But I'm sorry, I disagree. I didn't get that from the live action movie, I got it from the manga and anime series. If it really is wrong, show me some proof and prove your "geekdom". 😛

I don't know much about Street Fighter, but I think she look realistic.
She looks strong and fit without losing her feminity.

The manga and anime are not canon. The only accepted canon is announcements from Capcom of Japan and they have yet to say whether Xiang is her surname or not. So as far as I'm concerned, Chun-Li has no last name.

All Right!!!

I'm always amazed of your natural drawing!!!
I wish I could draw naturally... :bouncybou

And... "boy", whatever the fact that she has a last name (Xiang or Zhang), it's just an add for the movie (that stayed longer after the game), no need to highlight it.

Just enjoy the great art bro!!! :devil2:
