I have noticed that clips for sale are getting larger and larger. Is this just a trend, a way to get the most from a clips4sale purchase, or is there another reason?

I have no experience in clip production but based on what I've seen when it comes to size of clip compared to picture quality, I would guess it has to do with HD cameras and higher resolution clips. It makes sense that the better the quality of the clip (picture & sound wise) the bigger the file would have to be to accomplish it.

It's because they've moved from SD - HD and some have gone from HD to even 4k.
The bigger the resolution (the better the quality) the bigger your file will be. It'll be even bigger if its someone like Shy and Wild where they use effects and stuff on their videos. Plus its not just the fetish group, all forms of media have gotten bigger.

We used to use floppy disks that stored 2mb of data. Now we're using USB's that can store 64GB! It's just how technology evolves. I wouldn't stress to much about it.
Back on a film set I worked on we were shooting in 8k! which was about 6GB per minute of footage!

Anyway I hope this helps

The answers so far have talked about files being bigger because they're in HD which makes sense. 1080 is gonna take up more memory than 720. But was he talking about the number of megabytes, gigabytes, etc. or the length of the clip? For example lots of clips back in 2003 or 2004 were only 4 or 5 minutes long whereas today you're seeing a lot of them that are 15 or 20 minutes. And obviously a longer clip is gonna take up more memory but he may be looking for an answer to the length of the clips rather than the amount of memory they take up.

If that is the question it could be that in the late 90's early 2000's producers weren't sure how well fetish clips would sell online. We had just gotten to the point where the internet was in most people's homes and therefore it was hard to tell what would or wouldn't sell online. They may not have wanted to spend a lot of time and money on something that they weren't sure would work therefore they made shorter clips. Today it's something that they know is gonna sell therefore they feel comfortable making longer clips.

It's looking like my question was answered in two different ways. Many of the clips now available can't be stored on a CD. I always store mine off of the computer, and now use DVDs or an external hard drive out of pure necessity. There are just too much kb, mb, and clip lengths to use the CDs effectively anymore.

I know very little about the technological aspects involved, but the information above provides some great insight into them. Knowledge is never a bad thing to gain.

Thanks everyone.

Shark I would wholeheartedly suggest moving away from CD's/DVD's as they are slowly being replaced due to the very reason you just described.
I would suggest using a good o'l Hardrive (if your worried 2TB is more than enough). They're typically $100-$200AUD (probs like $100USD) but definitely worth it if you're carrying quite a big lump on videos.

I would avoid uploading to a cloud purely for the producers so its easier to keep track of any leaks of free content etc.
I would reccomend seagate drives personally.

All about video quality. A 5min clip in 720 is around 500mb. In 1080 its 750 or more. When you get into 2k and 4k you get up into gb per clip. Which for me anyway takes forever and a day to process and upload.

As a storer myself, I have a 10 tb hardrive that is only used for that (and backed up). Full disclosure : it's not full, yet.
I prefer 1080p files because the screens I use to watch clips on got bigger.

Like watching an old canelli clip in 280p is becoming pointless. But storing a 4k clip that is >4 Gb and not that good is a bit disapointing, that's why I tend to prefer 1080P
