My laptop that I bought at the conclusion of my long summer in NJ in August 2011, finally crashed last night. As those who have read my posts know, I have been having trouble with it for a long time.

Today I bought a new HP one. I got a pretty good price on it. I was also informed by the guy who sold it to me, that three plus years is good life time for a laptop. My other desktop that I'd had before that, lasted me nine years, but, supposedly, computers don't last like that anymore.

Anyhow, I'm back.

Welcome back! :wavingguy
Good luck with your new laptop. May it last until at least 2019. 😀

LOL. Thanks, mils.

I have a problem.

I have a big red arrow that seems to have set itself up on my screen. It says,. Switch between apps. I don't know how to get rid of it, and it seems to be blocking certain things like the compose email screen on my Gmail account, etc, and such. That is a problem because Gmail is the account I use for personal/business communication.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, so as not to start a new thread..

The guy who sold me this laptop.. advised me to sell my old computer parts, and that I could get cash for them. This is something I've never done before. The time I bought the previous laptop in 2011, the old desktop was so old,. from 2002, that I didn't figure it would be of any use, so I just tossed it. .

This is different. After listening to what this guy had to say today.. I'm definitely interested in selling the old parts of the previous computer, yet, I have no idea where to do so. Someone I saw on the street today, told me like a "Computer chop shop", similar to a person who sells an old car's parts.

Any advice on where I might be able to sell the parts for the old laptop?

Thanks,

I guess I can post this here, since it's about my computer.

I went to sell my old computer today, and came away.. disappointed.

Originally, I was told by the guy who sold me the new computer.. that I would get.. $100-200 for the old computer

When I got to the computer shop, I was greatly disappointed. The lady told me that "My computer was old, and had water damage". She offered me only $50. I tried to haggle to $75, or $100, but to no avail, and finally just sold her the thing, because I didnt want to drag it home on the subway. Between that, and the rebate I'm due on this computer, in,, up to six weeks, I got $100 back toward my new computer, making this.. expensive, but not.. astronomical. I was told that the old computer will be taken apart, and used for parts.

Oh, and I didnt have the chance to wipe the drive clean of all the pictures. I told the lady: "There are lots of pictures on there, but not of anything underage or illegal, and not of nude girls. She said they wipe the drive clean themselves. I can just see, lol, with all the foot pictures I had on there. I think with this computer, I'm going to be more.. selective about what I copy or save.

Hopefully, this computer will last me at least the three to four years that the Acer did.

Oh, and I didnt have the chance to wipe the drive clean of all the pictures.

That's unfortunate. You really should have taken the time to do that to minimize any risks, especially with any personal data you entered.

I sold the old desktop in 2011 with personal data, on it, I think, and nothing happened then. Hopefully, the same will be true now.
