Congratulations to Alex Wood!
With yesterday's seven shutout innings in the Dodgers' 1-0 victory, Wood became the first Dodger starting pitcher in over sixty years to start the year with ten victories and zero losses.

The announcers challenged the audience to name the last Dodger starting pitcher to begin the season 10-0, and I said, "Don Newcombe, 1956."

I was correct about the pitcher but wrong about the year. 1956 was the year that "Big Newk" won 27 games, his highest total ever, but it was a year earlier, in 1955, that he began the year with ten wins. In 1955 he was a mere 20-5.

So why isn't Alex Wood selected to be in the All-Star game?
That can still be corrected if a replacement pitcher is needed.

As if the Dodgers weren't already good enough, now Alex Wood is having a breakout year. It's hard to imagine anyone in the NL West posing a real threat to their playoff hopes down the stretch, even with the D-Backs and Rockies being within striking distance.

And to think the Braves traded Wood to LA for Hector Olivera. I'd say the Dodgers got the better end of that one

Very much so. :bouncybou
Orel Hershiser, announcing for the Dodgers, pointed that out. He said that the Braves should be crying now that Wood is healthy again and pitching as well as ever. 😀

haha. I think mild disappointment would be a more appropriate reaction. They're infinitely better than they were last year, just got one of the best hitters in baseball back off the DL (Freddie Freeman) and have quite a few pitching prospects soon to be called up. But having Wood still in the mix would sure be nice
