Consumer Protection

I'm getting ripped off by my phone company (Verizon) and was wondering if anyone knows any consumer protection organizations or other options I have to fight back.

When I moved I signed up for high speed internet, the modem they sent me didn't work and though I cancelled it within the trial date, they're charging me. The also are charging me for rewiring work I explicitly didn't authorize.

So they're ripping me off for about 150.00 and are going to try to ruin credit rating because I won't pay for services I didn't recieve or didn't authorize.

Aside from my angry letter, I'm wondering how I could fight this, file a complaint while not spending $$ on a lawyer, or get some kind of justice.

Any help?

I HATE Verizon. They were after me for 4 years for a bill I'd paid...even after I paid for and sent a copy of the cancelled check. I wish you luck. They're assholes to deal with.

If you've communicated the problems to them without a satisfactory result, your two best options are to report them to your local Better Business Bureau and/or to the Attourney General's Office.

Two of my colleagues at work also received DSL modems from Verizon that did not work. One canceled, and the other got a new modem from them that worked for about the first week and then malfunctioned. Not a good track record for their internet service.
