BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) - An Argentine bus driver must watch surgery being performed on a traffic accident victim as part of his punishment for striking and killing an 11-year-old boy, a judge said on Friday.
"This is an important legal warning to people who violate transit laws," said Judge Cesar Raul Jimenez of the northern province of Misiones, calling the unusual sentence an "educational measure."
Ramon Rodriguez Dos Santos, 44, was convicted of manslaughter after his bus collided with the child on a scooter.
The judge also barred him from driving for five years and gave him a two-year suspended prison sentence.
Dos Santos must now undergo psychological and physical tests to ensure he can withstand the trauma of watching surgery.
