Corporate Speak

Been spending some time down at Corporate the last few weeks and I wanted to share my impressions.

A colleague of mine who was stationed nearby has to phone clients for the better part of the day to check in with them, and every single time she says she's "Just calling to touch base" - EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

And she'll say it at least twice during each call, if not 3-4 times. She loves...loves... LOVES to say "touch base". She never used that phrase before, but picked it up from a trainer here, and now it's her go-to phrase whenever she can possibly use it. Matter of fact she's said it 4 times since I began typing this out.

This drives me nuts and it really shouldn't... but it does. I've already blogged about it but that didn't seem to help me release the demons of Touch Base-ery.

Please touch base and let me know if you can send some sort of help my way.

Have you tried suggesting alternate phrases? Maybe every time you talk to her you could use something different that still means "touch base." Perhaps she will find something new she likes better from your examples.

Grit your teeth and get used to it, just one of many corporate speak phrases that won't die.

PS: Did she ever play baseball or softball?

OMG. Just how could I help "touch base" the nutty agitation...

think of something else "touch base" could mean, something really funny, and then whenever she says it youl hopefully think of that instead 😀
