The Chicago Bears pulled the big upset Thursday afternoon by acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, a source told ESPN.com. The Broncos confirmed the move.

To acquire Cutler, the Bears had to give up quarterback Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a source said. To complete the trade, the Broncos had to give back a third-round pick in 2009.

The Bears beat out the Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans and other teams to get land the 25-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback. The Broncos had been asking for at least two first-round choices.

Cutler asked to be traded when he found out first-year coach Josh McDaniels tried to acquire Matt Cassel in a trade with the Patriots. Cutler had not returned phone calls from the Broncos, according to the team, and had been staying away from the offseason program.

Here's the deal straight from KFFL...

Updating an ongoing story, Mike Mulligan, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears will receive a fifth-round pick from the Denver Broncos in the their trade for QB Jay Cutler. The Bears will send their first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a third-round pick in 2009 and QB Kyle Orton to the Broncos in the deal.

And to be honest, I just don't get it. I thought Orton was doing a good job in Chicago, especially after Mr. Inconsistency (Rex Grossman). I dunno. Maybe there's just something there that I'm not seeing.

I just don't think Cutler is worth two 1st-rounders. Potential isn't worth that much. He hasn't proved enough to be worthy of so much.

It's a rare thing that you and I are in full agreement on anything football, Fiend, but this is definitely one of those times. Sure, Cutler looked great last season, but then look at the receivers he had, not to mention the O-line. I think Chicago really crapped out on this deal. But time will tell, I suppose.

Dont know how much of a good thing this will be

Yes a pro bowl QB but with a inept offensive coordinator at the helm and moronic city fans who go "we need to drop everything to get orton!" mentality.

Orton was ok, he was not good at the deep ball but was awesome in the shotgun but naturall, they rarely ran shotgun and would fun FB draws on 3rd and 6

We'll see, Bears finally have a valid QB but we'll see how he does behind a crappy offensive line with an overrated waste Olin Kreutz

Bears have no receivers and olsen will prob suffer since he was orton's fave.

I think this was probably an upgrade for the Bears. Orton showed that he was a good quarterback, but there were some moments where you had to wonder what he was thinking. Though I think this is an upgrade, I think they drastically overpaid for a guy who has played just three years in the NFL and two of those years he played at or below average. They gave up two number ones for a guy who has had one good season. To me it seems like they overpaid.

At the end of the day I think the Broncos got the better deal. You get two number 1s you can use to rebuild a defense that was struggle-ing and then you get a decent quarterback that is going to be playing in a system that helped make Matt Cassell a superstar QB. I just think the Broncos made a good deal for their organization.

Considering Cutler had really great 7 foot receivers to throw to, I'm not sure he's the awesome quarterback people say he is.

Wow, I didn't expect to be in so much of a minority on this one, but I have to disagree with the general sentiment so far.

I think it's a great trade for the Broncos, they got a competent starter (and with Marshall and Royal to throw to, I think Orton will do just fine in Denver) and two first round picks, although I don't think either will be in the top 20.

But Jay Cutler is a good NFL qb coming into his prime. His arm is a monster upgrade over Orton or Rex Grossman, and I think Chicago will make sure to beef up the line to protect their investment. I don't think Cutler will post numbers like he did in Denver... The Bears don't give up points like last year's porous Denver defense, and Matt Forte is going to carry the ball a lot more than the buffet of Denver rbs last year. I do think Cutler, Forte, and the still developing Devin Hester give the Bears a very young core of talented offensive players to compliment their stingy defense. I think Cutler will win more games than Orton next year, and that's more important than the individual numbers.

Plus they kept Minnesota, Detroit, Tampa, and Washington from swooping in and grabbing Cutler... those are all NFC teams who the Bears will be battling for playoff position. (except the Lions, on the playoff issue anyway) I think it will prove to be a very good move for the Bears.
