Dallas Braden throws perfect game.

Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden threw a perfect game against the hottest team in baseball, the Tampa Bay Rays.

What's an even better story is that he did it on Mother's Day. Apparently, his mother passed away from cancer when he was in high school. Good way to honor her memory, I think.

Before this gem, Braden was best known for his enraged reaction to Rodriguez walking across the mound on April 22. Still angry after the game, he told the slugger "to go do laps in the bullpen" if he wanted to traipse across a mound.

The squabble was still simmering last week. On Friday in Boston, Rodriguez said he didn't want to extend Braden's "extra 15 minutes of fame."

A-Rod struck a far more conciliatory tone Sunday.

"I've learned in my career that it's always better to be remembered for some of the good things you do on the field, and good for him," Rodriguez said before facing Boston. "He threw a perfect game. And, even better, he beat the Rays."

That said, Braden's grandmother may have gotten the last word:

"Let's forget it, uh huh - and stick it, A-Rod," said a chuckling Peggy Lindsey, who was in the stands watching.

Yea, sweet. Really stuck it to A-Rod. Hey, when their careers are done, whose gonna be more remembered? Can you all say "Braden who?" Arod gonna be one of the all-time greats to play the game. Braden threw a perfect game and then will be forgotten in time. Guess what, David Wells threw a perfect game too and he's long forgotten. A-rod has earned the right the to say what he wants to nobodies who cry when player runs by the mound. Yes, Braden threw a perfect game, but that does not, nor will it ever make him one of the games greatest. Also, "a-roid" as many like to call him, very doubtedly has taken them in the last five years with testing having meaning to it now, yet he's continued to tear up the league.

It's only the 19th perfect game ever pitched. 😀

Of them all, the one with the most strike-outs was the one pitched by Sandy Koufax in 1965. He struck out 14 batters, a majority of the 27 faced. Nobody else ever did that in a perfect game.

No! He graduated to HGH. And A-Roid is a jackass for breaking the unwritten rule. I am sure you are proud that he shouted at the 3rd baseman in Tornoto too! A-Roid is a classless human being. That isn't said by me...that is said all around baseball including his own teammates. Even Jeter wants to throw up at A-Roids antics.

Dallas Braden, I think what he did was awesome. To do that on Mother's Day is really special. Leave it to Mass1926 to try to undercut a great achievement. Anyone can hit a homerun, but only 19 perfect games have been thrown it the history of the game. Good Job Dallas.

oh how quickly we forget that he has admitted to steroid use, how has that worked out for mcguire or bonds.. neither of them will be in the hall and to be one of the greatest of all time you need to be a hall of famer. Nothing againist a rod i dont mind him but i think he blew his "greatest of all time" chances with the roids

My thoughts:

Very appropriate as the lead-off batter in an inning to try to get on base and get something started for your team. After all, the object is to win the game which won't happen until your team gets runners on base and drives them in.

If somebody did it with two outs then I would find it unsportsmanlike.

Well, Johnny Vander Meer's record is safe once again. Braden gave up a 1st inning double to Bobby Abreu. He does have a shutout going though through 5 innings. Not too shabby.
