From what I have read they have made an exception to their salary cap policy (known now as the Beckham rule).......also its my understanding that MLS will cough up some of that money.

A-Rod is OVERPAID!!! You can throw Zito in to that mix too. But when you listen and follow how Beckham is going to get paid, a lot of his money comes through endorsements ( something an A-Rod or Zito would never dream to do ). He is actually going to be paid close to $50,000,000 to play soccer and over $200,000,000 in endorsements. So get use to seeing the face, he will probably try to sell everything. And heck, with the world changing the way it is, he probably can. That is how popular he is internationally.

he's only getting 10 mil a year in salary, the media is using 5/250 to make a bigger deal out of it. half of this money is from endorsements which he gets no matter where he plays.

Beckham is rubbish, he has been binned from the England team and now he has been binned from Real Madrid.

Actually I think Posh could sell more items in the states that he could. I think more American would turn out to watch her play soccer than him. In the US, we view soccer as a game you play as kid before moving on to "real" sports. Right or wrong, that is how we view it.

It's also THE MOST PLAYED SPORT for the younger audience. The key is to get them to stick with the sport. Do that, and the game will surpass even the NFL.
