Anybody see this remake, yet? We caught it yesterday and I got my horror-geek on bigtime! In general, I'm one of those people who feels that the horror-genre has been pretty flat for a number of years, but was really bowled-over by this crazy ride! If you dig scary movies, go see! You won't be disappointed! This is coming from someone who loved the original, and I was prepared to hate this movie if they treated it like they have so many remakes in the last few years. Fortunately, they got it right. Wildly entertaining from start to finish!

I liked both the old one and the new one, though Im intrigued as to what happens in the new one after they leave the mall

I was ten years old when I saw the original...it scared the crap out of me and I had nightmares about zombies for YEARS!
It is one of my favorite horror films of all time. So, understandably, I wasn't expecting much with this "remake", "reimagining", etc.

Much to the incredible delight of my friends and I, the new Dawn RULES! I was blown away at how well this movie took what it did from the original and made it it's own.

I don't think it's right to judge which of the two films is better, I prefer to think of them as each having their own perspective of the same situation. Both are equally great.

To be honest, my friends and I were up till the following morning talking about it, so I don't know where to begin a discussion on it (pro-con wise), but anyone else starts a debate, I'm in.

Well, if we must debate it, it was obviously fake, and the zombies musta been on steroids or some other performance-enhancing drug, `cause they haul-ass! Still, I could kick their butts😀

Really? That good huh? See, it looked to me too much like '28 Days Later', and ive never seen the original DOTD, so I wasn't really into going to see it. But my best friend called me yesterday, telling me he saw it 3 (that's THREE) times over the weekend! And he's very selective about his horror movies, so I was thinking of going....but the reviews from you guys has pushed me over the edge, I can't wait now 😉

What I liked most about the new movie was the incredible sense of 'inevitability'......I mean, in the original, the ghouls moved really slow. You had a sense overall that if you were one of the characters, a plan could be achieved. Gather people, get supplies, find a good place to hole up, and weather it out.

This new one? No chance in hell. In the first ten minutes, you see how society has broken down, but as the movie progresses, you realize JUST HOW BADLY society has broken down and how hopeless the situation is.

Every plan they came up with in the new one started out okay, but ended in failure each time. Their circle of safety keeps shrinking and shrinking as the movie progresses. Even a simple plan like getting food to a neighbor across the street goes horribly wrong. This movie had moments that in other director's hands would've been successful and cliched. But this movie keeps upping the "you're screwed" factor. THAT'S what keeps my head spinning when I think about the movie. It knocked me over that there was no suvival really possible, if you think about it.

Dr. Bill, I agree. I soooooo geeked out over this movie. I'm not comparing it to the original, as I think it stands fully well on it's own as a 'sister' movie. I plan on seeing it again, and getting it on dvd when the day comes.

Excellent points about the "inevitablity" of things throughout, Shawn Man!
Y'know what's even more amazing? It's the director's first freakin' film! Definately a name to watch.
I was bummed about Andy. He was great!
How about the use of that Johnny Cash song, "When the Man Comes"? Wicked!
Ha Ha! Fully 2/3 of the audience got up too early at the showing I saw. It amused me because I always stick around for the credits. Bufoons!
tklgal226--that's CRAZY that your friend saw it 3 times over the weekend! But yeah, when you're as starved for a really great horror film as fans like me are, I guess your friend decided to "gorge" on it(so to speak). I didn't get around to seeing "28 Days Later", so I can't speak for it, but this "D.o.t.D.(`04)" packs a wallop!

My friends and I thought that Johnny Cash song was right...on...the...money. And coupled with those 70's style opening credits (at least i though so), it was a perfect combination. It reminded me of the original where that country song is playing as the hunters and national guard deal with the situation.

I NEVER leave before the credits are done. What happened there....backs up my inevitability theory. But at the same time, you left wondering, "Who survived? And will they be in the sequal?"

I'm not kiddin' here folks...I can't stop thinking about this movie. I'm just gonna hafta go see it again tonight, I guess🙂

Man see what i miss when im away for a couple Days😛

i've heard mixed Reviews on Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake) some Liked it some Hated it and some Just thought it was ok so so. But i can't wait to see it. i'll prob wait till it comes out on dvd though? because i have really have no one to Go with to see it. since none of my friends are really as big as horror fans as i am. so i'll prob just wait for it out on dvd🙁

although me and my dad could go and see it. But he's not much into horror movies either they gross him out at times.

But the original Dawn of the Dead is a classic pure classic🙂

G. Romeo rules!!

I Loved It!!

One of the best casting parts was Ving Rhains. Great casting because in a situation like this his muscles we essentially useless, but he conveyed security anyways.

The use of the Cash song was dead on.

I forgot though, did everyone die at the end of the original???

Tron

Roger and Steven died in the original. Roger was bitten while they were moving the trucks to block off the mall entrances, and he slowly turned...Peter ended up shooting him.
Steven was mobbed by a group of zombies as he tried to escape through the top of the elevator.

Peter and Fran escaped in the helicopter.

Hey QTip! Don't wait for dvd. See this movie in the theater, on the big screen, NOW! You won't regret it.

But In The Original..

The survivors made it safely to the Island right?

I thought I had Dawn Of The Dead on VHS. I have about 5000 movies but I can't seem to find it!

You're right, it's like Independence Day or Titanic. You really have to see it on the big screen.

Tron

I'm trying not to include any spoilers for anyone reading who might wanna check it out, but, yeah, in the original I think a coupla people get away in the helicopter.

About four people make it to an island in Romero's last one, "Day of the Dead".

Yeah, I'm with y'all. This is definately one of those movies that deserves the big-screen treatment!

QtipSoftness120: Yer Dad's gonna hate it, if he's not into the gory stuff, though I hear it's not as gnarly as "The Passion of Christ". It's surprisingly not as "wet" as the original "D.o.t.D." in terms of the blood n' guts. Just good scary stuff, which doesn't really have to be all nasty to be effective.

Survivors from the original Dawn....

.....escaped the mall in the helicopter. The movie ends with them flying off, and it's stated by Fran that they're getting low on fuel. They fly off, and that's it...kinda open-ended.

In Day of the Dead, they make it to an island.

I've seen the new Dawn three times now....and I STILL can't stop thinking about it....I feel the same way i felt when i saw the first Star Wars back in '77. Now if THAT isn't the sign of a good movie, I dont' know what is🙂
