1. Cam Newton - yes yes , we all know he was going to go no.1 . Big risk , big reward . I'm leaning toward big risk and him being the next Vince Young , LaMarcus Russell , David Carr

7. Aldon Smith - Niners could have traded down and easily still picked him at 15-20 . Plus the niners are going nowhere without a QB even in that crappy division

8. Jake Locker - WTF ??!!??

12. Christian Ponder - WTF 2 ??!!??

17. Nate Solder - mosts analysts belive N E could have gotten him at 28 . plus Costanzo still on board

25. James Carpenter - he was slotted at mid -to late 2nd round pick

* honorable mention to Julio Jones . Falcons gave up the farm to get him when WR wasn't an obvious need

Picks I liked or I think had nice value are

2. Von Miller - he has superstar written all over him

5. Patrick Peterson - he was top player on many draft boards

9. Tyron Smith - only 20 and rated best OL on board . His athleticism is off the charts for a tackle . One guy compared him to Larry Allen !!

11. J J Watts - Could be steal of draft

13. Nick Fairley - Suh & Fairley.. nuff said

18. Corey Liuget - his motor never stops

22. Anthony Costanzo- Manning just got major upgrade to his blindside protection

24. Cameron Jordan - Great value at 24

27 . Jimmy Smith - if, a big if .... he keeps his nose clean he is a true shutdown corner

28. Mark Ingram - wow , I love this trade....for the Saints . this guy is Emmitt Smith-esque

29. Gabe Carimi - real value and fit for terrible Bears OL

30. muhammad Wilkerson - Jets just replaced big no . 77 and got new anchor on defense

31. Cameron Heyward - good value because Steelers DL are all greybeards

Yeah, there were quite a few "head scratchers" this year. 😕

But the Vikings pick of Christian Ponder was definitely surprising to me. The kid couldn't even hold down the starting job at FSU successfully.

The bottom line though is even though it is fun to speculate on who did well and is going to be a "pro bowler", etc, realistically we won't really know the results of this draft until 3-5 years down the line.

Interesting draft....

Cam Newton #1? I hope the Panthers know what they're doing. I don't think he is NFL ready. Anyone who runs that spread option in college, do not have the skills to run pro-style offenses in my opinion. Cam may smile nicely, but I think he will not become a factor in the NFL.

Julio Jones at 6? WOW!! Matt Ryan has another toy. This was a hell of a pick!

I have no idea why the Niners took Aldon Smith. This better pan out..

Locker at 8? That shocked the hell out of me. I like Locker, but not at #8. This should be interesting to see how this unfolds..

Gabbert at 10? Again, another spread option QB. Let's see how this plays out.

I like Ponder at 12. He was impressive in the Senior Bowl and the combine. I think he will do ok. He'll be better than Tavaris Jackson.

Nick Fairley at 13? Next to Ndamukong Suh in Detroit? Man, the Lions are going to have a hell of a defensive line.

Mark Ingram going to the Saints. This is a really nice pick. Note to self: Try to draft him in fantasy football...

Now, all we need to do is have football played... *sigh*
