Oh man, I love comic books even more than I love tickling! Forced to choose between DC and Marvel, I would have to give the slight edge to Marvel. I think they both have a tremendous amount of classic characters, but Marvel gets the nod because their stories are based more in the "real world." The stories take palce in cities that actually exist, and the stories themselves tend to be more realistic. Anyone looking for a "real world" take on super-heroes, I can't recommend Daredevil, as written currently by Brian Michale Bendis, highly enough. This is one of the all-time great comic book runs, and while i may get slapped for this and called a heretic, I think this run is even better than Frank Millers. Now, on to the characters:
Marvel:
Daredevil: My favorite super-hero, and the current creative team is out of this world.
Spider-Man: Who deosn't love Spider-Man?
Captain America: The ultimate "always does the right thing" character. The most moral man in the Marvel universe, and the most respected.
Fantastic Four: Probably my favorite super-hero "team" even though they are depicted more as a family.
Nightcrawler: My favorite X-Man who FINALLY got his own solo series.
The Multiple Man: I just LOVE this character. He has a 4 issue mini-series going on right now, hopefully it will be succesful and they will give him a monthly.
Iron Man: My favorite hero when iw as a kid, and I still have a soft spot in my heart for him.
Moon Knight: An awesome character with great potential who just needs the right creative team behind him to be a breakout star.
And at DC:
Batman: I like him almost as much as Daredevil. He's the reason I got into DC comics at all. Just an awesome character who has had some terrific stories over the years. Did anyone read No Man's Land? THAT was one of my favorite stories ever, in comics or otherwise.
The Flash: I never really liked the Flash much, but the very lengthy run Geoff johns has had writing the book has brought me around, and now it's one of my favorite reads each month.
Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner version of GL. He seems to have just taken off into space to find his place in the universe, because DC is bringing back Hal Jordan. I'll have to wait and see how the new direction goes, but I'm hoping it is good.
Robin: He's become much more than Batman' sidekick, is becoming a hero in his own right.
Teen Titans: A great title, with great characters. Probably my favorite DC team.
Blue Beetle: I love comedy acts written correctly, and Blue Beetle (with booster Gold, naturally!) is one of the best.
