Nihilism is the belief that the universe and everything in it are fundamentally un-knowable. It is not even possible to know for certain that such things exist. The nihilist claims that everything we think we know is a sham, that moral distinctions are without meaning, and that truly communicating ideas between two people is impossible.

The word comes from the Latin nihil, meaning "nothing."

Yeah he is right. But for the most part its common usage in everyday language is the literally the meaning, to believe in nothing.
