So for our friends who still buy these playable silver coasters, what do you think of deluxe editons of our favorite albums?

It's sometimes a great idea to get unreleased bonus tracks or obscure live recordings. I have a problem with paying extra so you can get a mono version of the same record, or a "new" stereo version.

Yes? No? Maybe?

i usually don't. As you've already mentioned, the cd is swiftly going the way of our currency, compact and digitized readily available thru the collective. We own many more albums as mp3,s than cd. Were it vinyl, however, i'd most likely be scouring the garage sale bins for limited edition releases. One day i'll rebuild my collection 😀 cause nothing beats the sound of a vinyl record played many decibles too loudly.

For my favorite artists at least, I tend to think it's worth it if there's legitimately new stuff on it. Aside from who the artist is, I tend to look at what label's putting the release together and what their track record is. I don't think I've seen Rhino do anything that's not a four star release, for instance. So, if it's a combination of one of my favorite artists and a label with a solid record (Rhino's Elvis Costello remasters for instance), then I'm all for it.

Deluxe editions and all those rereleases are just the music companies way of getting you to buy a CD that you already own. CDs are dead anyway.
