Derek Boogaard of the New York Rangers passes away at 28

I read that too through TSN here...what a shame too. As I said on a certain other social networking site, I wasn't fond of him as a player but after reading the sheer amount of involvement he partook in the community in New York and Minnesota I couldn't help but feel very sad for the hockey world. A good soul was lost and those souls are a dying breed... 🙁

Derek's death still saddens me to this day. As a huge fan of the MN Wild and of Derek's, I was just shocked when he died. I met him a little over two years before his death at an autograph signing in my hometown-he called me "his little buddy." Another time a few months later, I was spending a few days in Minneapolis and going to a Wild game. I went out with some friends to eat and Derek was at the restaurant. As I was passing by his table, I just said to him- "Let's win tomorrow Derek." He stopped me and told me he remembered me and he invited my friend and I to sit with him. I met his brother Aaron and we all just sat and talked. It was very nice to get to know him off the ice, and he'll also bee remembered as a kind and caring man, in addition to one of the most impactful hockey players to me. RIP Derek.
