Maybe he'll get more than six or so shots next game...

...I guess I'll just have to hang everything on the Devils.😎

Hey Dave,

Yeah, 4 for 17 is not the way you want to start out a series. I don't expect Kidd to shoot that poorly in game 2. But, he will have to make some of his open looks from the outside. As I mentioned here on Tuesday, the Spurs do a great job of limiting shots in the paint (11 blocks last night) and points in transition. If you get by one seven footer, there is another one waiting for you at the rim. I don't think either team played particularly well in the first half. I feel sorry for ABC. They probably lost 6 or 7 ratings points in that sloppy and rather boring first half. The Spurs were able to get into the paint, but continually turned the ball over or missed easy looks. The Nets were taking a lot of jumpers, they couldn't get out on the break, and when they did they had their share of turnovers. The Spurs played better in the 3rd, taking care of the ball and continually pounding it inside. The Nets were only getting perimeter jumpers out of their half court offense, and their defense couldn't generate the turnovers they needed to ignite the break. As a lifelong Spurs fan, I am a little nervous about Game 2. You know Kidd will come out with extra fire in his eyes after a rather poor, for him, game 1, and the young players for the Spurs tend to go through periods where they drift away from the type of play that has gotten them this far. It makes for a dangerous combo. Duncan will continue his very efficient play. Never forcing anything, rebounding and playing defense. His rather "quiet" 32 pts., 20 rbds, 7 blks, and 6 asst., was the kind of game, that those of us who get to watch all the Spurs games, are treated to on a regular basis. Anyway, I look for a much better, played game in Game 2, I will stick with my prediction Spurs in 6, but it may only take 5.

gee, i know the NBA and ABC are sitting there wondering why the Lakers cant be in the Finals. game 1 lacked excitement. no glitz, no glamour, just the Nice-Guy Spurs and the small but quick Nets. i really think the layoff hurt the Nets. if you dont believe me, remember the Lakers run in 2001? they went 15-1. they shouldnt have lost that one game. they had a long layoff. i do expect the Nets to rebound, but i feel the Spurs will eventually win the series.

the Spurs played good ball. David Robinson played great. Tim Duncan was Tim Duncan. the Nets though kept going through too many stretches without a basket. that wont get it done. plus they need to play Mutombo more. he isnt what he used to be, but he can still block shots and can still impose some form of resistance to the Spurs. playing "small" ball will win a game, but not a series. remember, Dallas kept trying to "run" on the Spurs but eventually fell to the Spurs physical presence. only the Lakers, with their physical presence can match the Spurs. the Nets have to play smarter. Kidd will not have another bad game. Kenyon Martin had a good game. the other Nets have to step it up. otherwise they will be swept. AGAIN. game 2 will be very interesting.

Hey Prime,

I agree with you pretty much. But, the difference between the Nets and some of the other teams the Spurs have match-up problems with - namely the Suns, and the Mavericks - is that the Nets score by running and getting layups. The Spurs do a good job of taking that away, or at least limiting it. Teams like the Suns and Mavericks have nice perimeter games. It's a lot tougher to try and stop a team in transition when you have to guard them from the rim all the way out to the 3-point line. The Nets will have to shoot the ball a lot better to make this a series, and until they do, you will probably see some more zone defense from the Spurs, especially in deadball situations and coming out of timeouts. They haven't used it often in the playoffs, but it worked well in Game 1. I do expect the Nets to play better defense in Game 2. I was surprised at how often the Spurs guards were able to get in the paint in Game 1. I have a feeling that we will see some sort of zone from the Nets before it's all over. Both the Suns and the Mavericks did well with it. It will be up the Spurs to break that with some jumpers too.

Damn!! All this talk about zones and perimeter jumpers, makes Game 2 sounds like it will be more boring than Game 1. Maybe I won't watch .................. NOT!!!! Boring sucks for ABC and the NBA, but it's great if your team is 3 games away from a Championship.

NJ Nets are basketball, Nj Devils are Hockey [/COLO]

Yeah, Kidd had a great game last night. And BTW, Lime....I know the Devils are hockey...I was referring to the chances of one of the Jersey teams winning thier championship.

well, now we have a series, and there is actual belief that the Nets can win the title. unlike 2 years ago when the 76ers beat the Lakers in game 1, everyone knew the Lakers were still going to roll through them. not this year. the Spurs are a good team, but they havent convinced anyone that they are unbeatable. they blow big leads, they are inconsistent, and they have NO killer instinct. i believe the Nets are going to test the Spurs and may even win the title. if the Nets win game 3, the Spurs are in BIG trouble. they are a "front running" team, so it would be interesting how they will react being down 2-1.

this series isnt exactly all the exciting, but it is interesting enough for peole to pay attention. can you imagine if it was ever a Indiana vs Utah final? *shudders*

there's always tomorrow!!! Go Nets

Now if we can only get the Yankees straightened out I will be one happy camper this season!!
