I honestly dont think many people out there even realize tickling fetishes are a thing. There are many fetishes out there most people dont even know exist. Even I cant name all of them. In my experience, your average person tends to associate tickling with the foot fetish. Maybe that's because so many tickle lovers on the internet in open, public spaces are always asking about ticklish feet. I've very rarely seen or heard the average person talking about tickle fetishes, regardless of what the tone of the conversation was. I've heard knowledge or acknowledgement of the foot fetish many times, but not tickling.
Point is, if the tickling community did anything, it made people realize there are a lot of foot lovers out there and many foot fetishists. Other than that, I see little to no correlation between mainstream tickling and the tickle fetish.
Despite tickling being very common in society (many people have probably seen at least one instance of tickling in their lives - family, friends, strangers, etc) many people still consider it to be weird or strange. Or they just dont think about it at all. I've seen a lot of people though that hate being tickled or touched. Tickling is also viewed as playful, childish, and silly so you dont see it as much for more serious roles.
I would actually argue that maybe the "Me Too" movement or the move away from women being presented as sexy objects in film and TV has led to less tickling scenes with female characters. Not saying this is a problem. Don't attack me or anything. Just saying in the past, I feel that it was more common to find a woman or female character in a predicament where she ends up getting tickled. Now it seems like the industry is moving away from that.
