So, any of you here 'differently abled'? I know I am for one (or, four 😛). I have TBI and am dang proud of being able to be a speaker for the fellow differently abled people in my 'avenue'. :unsure (Though I'm Not thankful for being one in the first place, mind you! 😛issed 😛issed)

And so, I was just wondering: how are -YOU- differently abled? Maybe you have a medical condition making you 'differently abled' (as opposed to 'disabled'), or maybe you just 'don't follow the "flow" of things'...

On another note, I'm 'differently abled' by enjoying sleeping in seemingly very very awkward/painful positions: it's what I have to do sometimes to help get rid of my insomnia. Or, I'm 'differently abled' by sometimes sleeping with my knee to my chin, using reading break to actually study/work on my school 🙂scared), or trying to memorize people I know license plate's, or always looking for: double letters/numbers, following letters/numbers, trying to make everything into a pattern that can repeat itself, or feeling I have the need to press the backspace button a certain number of times if I've made a mistake. (Can you say OCD, anyone? :stickout)

Maybe you're 'differently abled' by refusing to eat the red Smarties until last, or by demanding eating dessert first. Or going crust to pizza on a slice...

*Dons Uncle Sam hat* I'd like to know how are -YOU- different!
WE WANT YOU!

lol,I just have terrible anxiety.I am scared to go walking alone or even step outside alone because I think someone is going to come kidnap me.A lot of times I won't even go walking with friends only my Mom.I also get nervous around to many people if I don't know them.People can also drain my energy and I get sleepy around them.I also have this nervous tic that looks like a chill or appears as if I was startled but I have to do it or the tension builds and builds in my back so when I jump it releases that tension. If someone pays to much attention to it it makes it worse. When,I am under stress or nervous it also makes it worse. Then,at periods I sleep all day and stay up all night but sometimes I sleep at the right times lol.

I've never been diagnosed but I believe I may have Tourette's. I've had annoying ticks since I was a teenager which ranged from squinting at regular intervals to making odd noises at the inappropriate moments. Fortunately I don't have any of the audible ones now (for the moment, they seem to come in spates) which always sounded like I was scoffing at people. Now I just do weird things with my eyes but everyone's too polite to say anything. I probably look like a total nutcase at times.

I also have the ability to see invisible lines of certain peril on the ground wherever I go that must be avoided at all costs. At first it was just the regular old lines on the footpath where one slab of concrete ends an another begins, but for a while now I've been drawing lines from other objects and even passing cars. This is especially annoying when I'm waiting for a bus since I like to pace around. Also if there's one of those buttons you press to cross the road that beeps at intervals I need to time my steps with those beeps.

I can't keep my hand steady. As a result, everything I draw looks like garbage. XD

ok i'm not sure i understand..this thread is about chronic diseases??

I'm seven feet tall... I could count as "differently abled" considering it's difficult for me to do what you normal sized people do. 😛

Duke: if it means you function differently than 'everyone else' for any reason, in any different way, then yes, you could be 'differently abled' - and PROUD OF IT! 😀

And Izzy, it's kind of like how Bobb's 'differently abled' from the fact his sheer size makes everything a different experience for him than 'us'. You could be differently abled from a medical condition or maladie or some other, or, you could just be 'different': like how I have to feel I have to take a certain number of steps within a set block before moving on - or on one side of a self perceived line - than on the other. Or how everything has to equal 'six' somehow in my head, if I'm in that mode of thought. :stickout
You know, just, things that make -You- different (from the faceless mass)! :ggrin:

In one way or another, we're all differently abled. :super_hap

I am intellectually challenged hehe. Well kinda. I managed to get through university just by learning things by rote- I'd write out essays and learn them by heart just to get through my exams.

I suffer from anxiety and paranoia. Paranoia is the worst thing for me- I am always worried that I might have said the wrong thing to someone, say if they take a while to respond particuarly via e-mail or text. I am a people pleaser and along with the paranoia it doesn't make a good mix....I need constant reassurance and approval from other people and even when I get it, especially when it is positive and compliment me I just think that they are lying/just trying to be polite. Those of you who have spoken to me have probably already spotted some of those signs.lol.

I can't feel pain... that also makes me differently abled. Technically I'm not allowed to work on a construction site because I could injure myself without realising. 😵

Really? *runs towards Bob with huge hammer in the air*:stickout😉

Aye, it's true. Hit my hand with a hammer and I won't react... my hand would still be broken, so I'd prefer if you didn't though. 😛

and now you thinking my MSN screen name explains a lot (loopy loon.hehe) :lol

Nah I wouldn't do that to you Bob....even if you are a Southerner...oooh see that is still on topic....that makes you differently abled- being a Southerner. :stickout

As a very small child, I experienced a great deal of hearing loss in my left ear. If someone is speaking to me, you'll generally see me lean in a bit with my right side, just so I'll have a better chance of not missing something they say to me.

I'm 100% ambidextrous. Bat, golf, write, guitar, draw, eat... you name it.

And I'm excessively good looking and charming.

We're only differently abled compared to you Northerners, in the sense that we're betterly abled than you. Instead of putting us down, your putting us up. 😀

When I was a todler I was alergic to foods containing yeast...Basicly I could only eat cherios and rice cakes....Thankfully as I aged my body became tolerant

I have a unique ability to lose emotional response to certain stimuli. It really helps when I get in sticky situations.

Yeah, like dying from accidentally not noticing a grievous or horribly infected wound. XD
