It's come to my attention, quite some time ago, that there are a great number of things (religious, political, domestic, etc) that really seem to hit people hard in some very soft spots...others just plain rub people the wrong way.

Those of us who follow the forums have seen this first hand in the HUGE and sometimes flaming-bordering posts on certain current events; but that's just the icing on the cake...Mimi and a few others have taken notice that several ticklephiles have a background with physical and sexual abuse, as well as psychologocal distress and various other neuroses and hang-ups (although they have been EXTREMELY reticent about naming names).

The ones that I've seen directly have been enough to give me a bit of the willies and I haven't even been around that long or seen the worst of it. And as we've seen on the forums, these issues can get in the way of having fun or just relaxing.

I don't even know if people with bondage/extreme fetishes have that many as a prerequisite for their particular tastes.

So my question for all of you is: TICKLEPHILES HAVE TOO MANY ISSUES?

What do you think?

yeah i think Ticklephiles as awhole have to many issues. But that was Gods holy Divine plan. God never said we weren't gonna face hard times and struggles in this world and everything is this World is gonna be all peachy and everybody will love us in this World. he Knew we were gonna struggle and have Good days and Bad days. But the fact being is how you bounce back from thoses hard times/sad times/angry times and Come out of it all and Relize that all of us no matter what were going through were still alive and still here to breath and live another day in this world. and Just be thank full that we all have friends and family. because with OUT them most of us would not be able to cope with the weight of this world no matter if you are Rich or Poor dosen't matter. you just wouldn't be able to.

I think that it is the wrong question, Amnesiac. The "too many issues" problem is not restricted to ticklephiles; it's inherent in most big, non-homogenous groups of humans. We all have different age groups, people from various countries and cultures, religious and political backgrounds, educational levels etc etc etc.

Any large group is bound to have its share of anti-social psychopaths and neurotics, but also of nice and funny people. However, the "bad apples" create a lot more stink than the others, thus they stick out from the crowd and are easier to percept.

No, I don't think that the ticklephiles are burdened with more issues than others... 😉

I expected coming across people like this when I registered. I knew it wasn't gonna be 'Leave It To Beaver'.
Psychological distress? With all of my family problems and my financial woes, I think I might fall into that category 😀

LOL.

I'm sorry, to corner ticklephiles like that.. is too funny. I know a lot of non-ticklephiles with waaaaaaaaaaay more issues.

In other words, everyone has too many issues.

In fact, I have too many issues. 😛

I think the issue at hand is that we have over 11,000 people registered here now, with that large of a group your going to have your handful or 2 of people that have more then common problems, but I think you would find that in any cross section of 11,000 people. I don't think this relates to our passion or any particular fetish. Just my humble opinion..

Friend, if you think "ticklephiles" have issues, lurk a while at some of the "mainstream" forums. I post at one weather forum (Wright-Weather.com), where there are regular cussfights....far nastier than anything I've ever seen here. Do many there have issues? Oh yeah...from disfunctional families to prior abuse to current family/ spouse problems to one dude who wants a sex change operation. It's a menagerie of folks who are far more screwed up psychologically than I am, or most on this forum. I've visited other weather and science related forums with similar membership; as well as other forums (politics, military, sports, etc).

Have I got issues? Sure....in all honesty, I believe most of us have. My life growing up wasn't perfect...but here's a very important point: my family didn't become dysfunctional until AFTER my mother died in 1977...when I was sixteen years old. I discovered my tickling fetish at age eleven...over FIVE years before mom died (and she died very suddenly from an aneurism). At the time I found enjoyment tickling neighbor girls and sis's friends, my life was fun, there were no stresses in my life. I was a very happy kid, well liked, intelligent. My parents loved me, and I loved them.....right out of the "Donna Reed show" (in fact, my mom reminded me a lot of Donna Reed 🙂

I don't see any more issues among TMF members than any other forum....and I've visited and post at quite a few.

Just my .02 cents worth...

Generally, a hypothesis such as this requires a baseline commonality which can be linked by more than one distinguishing characteristic. The one you've chosen (ticklephiles) has no secondary distinction. Therefore, I would have to agree with everyone else here that there is no basis for ticklephiles to have more or less problems than anyone else. 😎

I agree with the opinion that being a ticklefile does not mean we have too many issues. It depends on the individual. And like it's been said, you'll get a few of those individuals in any crowd.

Like Knox said, if you cant expect 'Leave it to Beaver', you're gonna get 'the Osbournes' and everyone has issues not just us

To quote R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts". I've come across lots of non ticklephiles with problems. Just like a have no doubt ticklephiles have problems too. Why not? We're all human.

Anyhow I think I more interesting question would be does this mental stress of current/previous problems & issues result in our love for tickling? I have no clue how to go about finding an answer to that one. But I figure it's up for debate.😕

Amnway no one is perfect everyone has problems it is just weather or noit they choose to address and fix them or ignore them, but I dont think ticklephiles have to many issues, maybe some but not too many...but hell everyone has issues...just look at the movie Pleasentville, thats a prime example nothing can ever be perfect!

P.S Amnway you better message me soon i got some news for ya

I want to chime in here. I dont think ticklephiles have any more issues than any other person. We just happen to share a common fetish, and need to indulge that fetish. We have no more "issues" than anyone else. I mean, look at all the troubled individuals who engage in illegal behavior, and their "issues", and some of them dont even have fetishes. Yes, we have experiences that have happened to us in both childhood and adulthood that contributed to our fetish, but the word "issue" is a very broad definition. To me, what is most important is not whether a person has a fetish or issues, but what kind of person they are besides their fetish. I would sooner befriend, date, or marry, a woman with a tickle fetish who might just have that issue, and cares about others, rather than one who does not have that issue, and might take drugs, and abuse their spouse or kids. People make too much of a big deal about fetishes, especially ones outside the community. I say, what kind of a person is the whole person, both with the fetish, and otherwise, that is the important thing, I think.

🙁

Yet another group of austrophiles who believe that because they have reservations about who they are, that the rest of us have those same reservations.

austrophiles? You really have got to stop reading Marx and play nice

😀 😀 😀 :blaugh:

I don't believe ticklephiles have any more issues, than anyone else. In any large group of people, or cross section of society at large, there will be people with problems. However, I think in a format such as this one, a message board, people tend to be more open in talking about their issues. We're all a little more brave/open sitting behind a computer screen!

My 2 cents.

No Way....

Most of the people I have posted with and met from this forum are some of the most delightful people I have ever met. Everyone I have actually met face to face, I would hang out with in a heartbeat.

I had more than my share of issues early in my childhood but I grew up in a family that cared enough to help me deal with it, get the help I needed, and, eventually, overcome them and lead a normal life. During my teen years, I was involved in sports, popular, and kept up with my peers in every aspect of school. It has made me the type of person I am today- good and bad.

I guess, based on what I just said, that would put me in that category and if that's the case, things could be a hell of alot worse. I'll take it.

I have seen the word "issue" used in this and similar contexts for years now.

I still don't know what an "issue" is.

As far as I'm concerned, it does not have a definition that I consider a definition. (I'm sure someone can cut-and-paste from a dictionary that doesn't define it.)

Do back issues of Playboy count?

No seriously, I have to agree with most of what is being said. Mundane as it may seem, we are probably just an average cross section of humanity here.

Strange that, because I almost fall into that category myself. Although I've not been abused in either way you mention, I have experienced things that had a similar emotional effect on me. Twilight Zone anyone? :scared:

Now what would be REAAAAALLLLLLLLY horrible for a person, would be for them to fit the description so lovingly laid down by Hal and not have a clue about it. :cry1:

Me? I'm paranoid, depressive, bi-polar and I'm also a fan of cricket who wrestled a few matches about 5 years ago. Does it get any worse? :manicd:

I'm sorry but I believe that everyone has issues with who they are, ticklephile, or not. I believe that life is about YOU, meaning that its all about learning about yourself. And if your learning about yourself then obviously you are going to have reservations about who you are, everyone goes through almost everyday. You go through life making descions on things that you don't always know the answer to, then you learn about yourself, and you question whether that was a smart move or not, you question who you are, just like tickling should you in a given situation or not? Am I this person or not? People face these problems even in the real world...(as if I'm not talking to real people here...?)
