They played this on the 90's Nooner on the 4th of July on the radio and I'd totally forgotten what an amazing song this is. I can't get enough of it, which is a big deal. And contrary to my own patriotism, I like American music. Canadian music's been bad since the Tragically Hip and terrible since Nickelback.

Anyways, American Music by the Violent Femmes:

I'm glad you love American music.. but I like Nickelback... and... sometimes Celine Dion. My favorite rock band is from Canada (Thousand Foot Krutch) and some other rock bands I like 😛

you don't have to type in english but if you're going to spam there's no point in typing with arabic leters we don't understand 😛

I dig me some American music (love that song btw) but even more than that, I tend to REALLY dig me some British music. 😀

I think Canadian bands and musicians are popular with the generation that grew up with them - nowadays the people that grew up with the Nickelbacks, the Hedleys, the Arcade Fires and the Drakes of Canadian music follow them with a far greater religious gusto than religion itself. (Want evidence, see Justin Bieber X_X)

I myself was fortunate to grow up loving Canadian music and for Canada's hayday one would look no further than Crosby, Stills, and Nash (with or without Neil Young), Neil Young himself, The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and elements of Buffalo Springfield, to mention a few. Music everywhere is changing to reflect the requests of the newer generations that follow it.

lol Canada's got more than Nickelback and Avril Lavigne. Just like America's got more than Kesha and LMFAO.

Canadian: Arcade Fire, Femme Fatale, Stars, Wolf Parade, and you know, the Beebs is Canadian too 😉

Nickelback is an atrocity. The staff of every venue that has ever allowed Chad Krueger to sing in public should be tried for crimes against humanity.

I like American music, but no more or less than the music of any other nation. Generally speaking, I like music based on whether I enjoy listening to it or not, regardless of it's country of origin or even it's language.

9 times out of 10 British music pisses all over American music's face; pisses all over her face while she's tied up and wearing an o-ring gag, tears streaming down her cellulite cheeks and botox lips. 😉

Good song. And yeah, so long as I'm not locked into this or that genre, I love American music. But even if I were locked into one genre, I'm specifically fond of "Americana". Anyone who knows me well knows how I try to get everyone to give Josh Ritter a listen*, and if I can still make it after an upcoming trip, I want to do the Philadelphia Folk Festival -- they're bringing in Arlo Guthrie this year!

*...and on that note, here's a great place to start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxWx...ext=1&list=AVGxdCwVVULXdx9Ipytqv6XguF5pc-WkI9

Meh, I don't care where the music is from as long as it's metal and it doesn't suck

That's why American artists are more popular all over the world than British artists right? And British artists seem to only be popular in countries that speak English ;p... (On average of course.. there are some British.. or let's use the actual term.. English artists that are popular around the world) Unless you were including Ireland and Scottish artists when yous aid British? I guess then we should include Canadian artists with Americans and they'd still be more popular all over the world lol

You're 0 for 5 there hun. :slapfight:

You just like to get into fights dude! 😛

I'M GONNA BURY YOU SO DEEP IN CANADIAN
CONTENT THAT YOU'LL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY!!! :canada: :slapfight: :canada:

BILLY TALENT, BRAN VAN 3000, CRASH TEST DUMMIES, FINGER ELEVEN, FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND, GLASS TIGER, GOB, SUM 41, HONEYMOON SUITE, I MOTHER EARTH, JEFF HEALEY BAND, LEN, MARIANAS TRENCH, MATTHEW GOOD BAND, MEN WITHOUT HATS (SAFETY DANCE FTW!!!), METRIC, MOIST, OUR LADY PEACE, THE PAYOLAS, THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS, PROZZAK, TOM COCHRANE AND RED RIDER, RHINOCEROS (yes there was a Canadian band known as Rhinoceros), SIMPLE PLAN, SLOAN, THE SPARROW (we knew/know them now as Steppenwolf), SWOLLEN MEMBERS, THE TEA PARTY, THREE DAYS GRACE, TRIUMPH, TROOPER, WIDE MOUTH MASON...
...
...
...and that's just bands. Want to be buried under Canadian musicians? Many, if not most, of these musical entities are better then anything spawned by Kroeger or his label. 😀 :slapfight:  :domocute:

The Beatles. Your argument is done.

If everyone hates Nickelback for being Canadian, Simple Plan is a very close second. :ranty:

Not counting pre-Hip bands and the one-hit wonders you've got listed up there (Len? Really?), I count four bands that I truly can say I like (CTD, Finger Eleven, Matthew Good and Our Lady Peace) and another two that are listenable (Sum 41 and Gob). You also missed The Salads and Bedouin Soundclash, which would have been acceptable answers, and Theory of a Deadman, who sound exactly like Nickelback and are therefore terrible. 🙂

Alright as a self-proclaimed music geek, and a guy who worked in record stores for over a decade, I feel it is my duty to defend my country, and the great music they have put out.....

First off: The Odds.... No one knows who they are, but they SHOULD have been "Canada's Band".... instead Universal pushed the crap out of the Tragically Hip and they got the moniker..... but the Odds were amazing.... They reformed a couple years ago, but it wasn't pretty....

Colin James: Dude does GREAT blues and even better big band...... his album "Fuse" is probably the best blend of pop, rock and blues I've ever heard.... a "fusion" if you will....

Sam Roberts: Do I really need to say anything? Dude is amazing!!

Rheostatics: Another hidden Canadian Gem...

Michael Buble: I don't care how you feel about his style of music... no one can deny the dude has an incredible voice and the swagger to go with it.... the closest thing we've had to a Rat Pack-er since the Rat Pack....

Blue Rodeo: LEGEN...... wait for it......... DARY!!

The Cavaliers and The Gentlemen Husbands: The two best unsigned acts in the country.... check em out.....

Kathleen Edwards: I wish more people knew who she was.....she's REALLY talented.... writes phenominal alt-country stuff.....

Sarah Harmer: See above..... only BETTER!!

Esthero: We R in Need of a Musical Revolution ..... go take a listen....

Ron Sexsmith: Probably my fav songwriter in the world..... he's a bit akward looking otherwise I believe he would be huge in Canada..

Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Ani DiFranco, Goddo, Classified, Spookey Ruben, SLOAN, The Be Good Tanyas, Oh Susanna, The New Pornographers, Stars, Kid Koala, Sarah Slean, Buck 65

This is just a SAMPLING of some of the genius to come out of Canada....

YES we've unleashed shlock like Theory of a Creedfaultback and Celine Dion on the world, but who hasn't.... we can thank the United States for Rebecca Black and England... yeah the country that brought us the greatest band of all-time, The Beatles..... well they also brought us Howard Jones..... NUFF SAID!!

There is tons of GREAT music from all countries..... and there is tons of CRAP....

But let's give this country it's due..... Oh Canada, Oh Oh Oh Canada!!

Oh I just did what I said and buried you under Canadian Content; I didn't care whether you liked them or not. 😛

Your preference appears to be more akin to alternative rock than anything and there's a reason why Theory of a Deadman and Faber Drive, to name two, sound exactly like Nickelback...because they all have Chad Kroeger's fingerprint on them; ToaD and F.D. are under Kroeger's record label, 604 Records.
