-How is Minnesota 0-2?! (Looking at you Tav Jackson and Brad Childress)
-Remember when the Niners had the 'hard choice' @ #1 between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers... yeah, that didn't go so well...
-Brett Favre, Green Bay is not missing you
-Either Jay Cutler is playing over his head or he may be the next great QB[---2006 Draft QB's Recap: #3 Vince Young, #10 Matt Leinart, #11 Jay Cutler... Need I say more?]
-Matt H-Beck and 2008 Seattle Seahawks=Dan Marino and 1993-1999 Miami Dolphins... going nowhere
-The Cards will win their division... if 37 year old (!) Kurt Warner can stay healthy
-I can't fiure out who's worse: The Bungles or Rams
-The Buffalo Bills (?!) and Denver Broncos (???) are making some noise... but will it last?
-If the 'Aints had a decent D they might actually scare some people... alas...
-Chargers, Hawks, Browns and Jags fans aren't happy right about now
-Is Norv Turner the next Marty Schottenheimer? Or is it worse than that?
-Thanks to their stingy D (and how), the Pats will win 9 or more games... and then lose in the Playoffs (That D is OLD!)

And finally...

-Can we put a rest to the PIT-CLE 'rivalry' already? Losing 10 straight and 16 of 19 to a superior team IS NOT a 'rivalry'!:manicd:

My thoughts:

San Diego is the best 0-2 team by far. They lost to Carolina by a 'throw it to the wind and pray' pass and the refs handed Denver the other one.

Minnesota isn't that crappy. Everyone states how great Green Bay is playing right now, so it really that bad losing to them? Also, it is that bad losing to the Colts? Who doesn't usually lose to the Colts?

That said, how long can Carolina and Denver keep winning? Will the real Oakland Raiders please stand up?

Brett Favre's first and last name isn't "GOD" and the Jets aren't ready to have the division handed to them, at least not at this point. Now do people realize that Favre's 'million replay' first game as a Jet, miracle to end all miracle games was against the WORST TEAM in the league last season?? Did we really have to see that 4th down crap and flush the toilet TD pass about 100 times last weekend? IT WAS THE DOLPHINS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

The only thing worse than having to sit through over-hype's TD pass a 100 times was watching Brady get injured a million times. Although I agree that the Pats will still make the playoffs due to a skunk schedule.

I totally agree, Cleveland vs Pittsburgh so-called 'rivalry' needs to be put to rest. Yes Bradshaw got spiked on his head, but that was like 30 years ago.

Anyway, I'm glad the NFL is back.

Been great so far. Hopefully the Buccs can keep it up. Great game as we speak, Dallas looks mean.

And Philly looks scary good as well...

And they play the Steelers next week...

Save me Jebus!

The problem with San Diego is their coach just isn't that good.

As far as Favre is concerned, isn't it true??? As a Jets fan ( and I said it then to Flock and Natural ) that this is a QB turning 39. Not 29. Yeah he won a Super Bowl but my son who is in 10th grade now was not even in kindergarten yet. So everyone made a HUGE issue over him. I had friends and family members ( who I hadn't heard from in years ) calling me to congratulate me on getting Favre. I'm like save it. Unless he takes my team to a Super Bowl then who cares. Chad Pennington got to the playoffs three times as the Jets QB. So unless my team goes to the Super Bowl with Favre as the QB his time in New York will be looked at as a FAILURE. Not only by myself either. Many Jets fans feel the same way.

Understatement of the century:manicd:

A Jets fan living in Michigan? Why aren't you a fan of the local---?!

...

Oh, yeah, that's right... the Lions...:xlime::facepalm:

FIRE MILLEN!:punt:
I was born and raised in New York. Lived there for over 38 years. Moved here to Michigan 3 1/2 years ago to be with and will eventually marry Sadira. We met here on this forum. Which is also why we do the Michigan Gatherings together. But I am off topic. Just wanted you to understand why I am a Jets fan. :wavingguy

Yeah, it's all good. J-E-T-S! JETS, JETS, JETS!

It's just late and I felt like poking fun at the abysmal Lions. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or something...:idunno:

As far as the Saints are concerned, consider that 4 of their starting defense is out hurt as well as Colston. Take that into consideration along with they only lost by 5 points, and you'll realize they didn't really do all that bad.

Scared of the Eagles? What kind of Steelers fan are you??? The way I see it, the Steelers have a great chance of handing the Eagles a very humbling loss early in the season. Remember, it was the Steelers 4(?) years ago that broke the Eagles AND the Pats winning streak in back to back weeks. Fear Philly? NEVER!

San Diego was robbed. End of discussion.

Despite the final score, Philly has shown that Dallas can be rattled and that they have chinks in their armor. Getting to Romo is a bit easier than one might believe. Same goes the other way too. Both those teams have vulnerabilities that other teams can exploit now that those two have played this early in the season.

Right now, in Green Bay, everyone is saying "Brett who?" I'm glad the cheeseheads stuck with Rogers and he's showing them that he's happy with that choice too.

I think Minnesota have a great team at the moment. But they have a poor to average QB and donkeys in the coaching positions. Brad Childress hitched his wagon to TJack's star and only now is willing to contemplate benching him with the threat of 0-3... and even then it's only a maybe. The current big discussion amongst Vikes fans is this: 'Does TJack make poor, simplistic plays because that's all Childress and Bevel trust him with, or is he a good QB who is straigtjacketed by the piss-poor playcalling?' I think it's a bit of both myself, chicken and egg.

Adrian Peterson is still a beast, racking up 150 Yards plus against the Colts. But without a good (hell, even a decent) QB paired with him - and without a serious passing game, he's still on a run to nothing.

Both Cowboys and Eagles looked very good. That game was so entertaining, I stayed up to watch it all. Considering that entails going to bed at around 5am, that's saying something.

McNabb - Wow. He's looking good... and excels at scrambling and keeping plays alive. I have a sneaking suspicion that Childress (an ex-Philly staff member) hoped that TJack would become another McNabb. Sadly, that didn't work out. Also, he has a great offensive line... for most of the game they just held Dallas off, and let McNabb do what he does.

DeSean Jackson... what an idiot. Dropping the ball in celebration of a touchdown that hadn't happened yet. I don't even see why they needed the video review... anyone could see he dropped that ball a good yard-half a yard out. But the Cowboys defence missed out on the live ball and Westbrook bailed him out.

Romo - Owens. Don't really need to say much here. Oh, but an honourable mention to Jones. Great kick return for the touchdown. I still think Cowboys are looking good for the Super Bowl this year.

Matt Cassell - The boy done good. Sure, he's no Brady, but he looks like he could keep the team competitive if not elite.

Farve - Killing games with interceptions. He's still doing it, even as a Jet.

The Broncos are lucky sods, but then again you make your own luck sometimes. I don't think you could say the win over the Chargers was overall an undeserved one. Bad call aside, Cutler and Marshall were connecting all day long.

Those are my thoughts for the week. Roll on week 3 and hopefully some sort of win for the Vikes. :wow:

Of course I remember the 2004/5 season! Big Ben saved our ass! Then the Pats wasted us at Heinz...:cry1:

I didn't think the Eagles were going to be this good... but man they are. (McNabb is back, baby!) Really, I respect them, 'scared' was a generic term.

In any event, this week's game should be GREAT!

Introductory Salvos

The Giants are among the tops in the NFL. Don't forget, they lost Strahan to retirement & Osi to season ending injury.

I was glad that San Diego got hosed. The bad karma they get for firing Marty Schottenheimer is finally coming back to haunt them.

The only thing I can say about last night is that T.O. allowed me to win my first fantasy week (1-1) by less than a point. (He scored 20 when I trailed by 19+ in my fantasy league).

Sadly, he's doing better than David Garrard & Maurice Jones Drew Combined. That's why I am starting J.T. O'Sullivan vs. 'da Lions on Sunday!

Of my 6 preseason playoff AFC picks, there are a grand total of 5 wins. (New England 2, Jersey/B, Titans 2) Jacksonville, Cleveland, & Houston have disappointed.

The NFC picks are doing slightly better (Dallas 2, Jersey/A 2, Green Bay 2, New Orleans 1) Only Seattle & Minnesota are winless.

I'll Tell You What ...

I'm lovin' that the Bills are 2-0 right now.

Granted ... both their wins came against teams that were pretty banged up , but I don't think teams cared much last season when they played a Buffalo team that was absolutely devastated by injuries ... so having the shoe on the other foot don't feel so bad for the moment.

The Bills have a pretty easy schedule this year , so we'll see what they can do w/it. Our next three games are against Oakland ( 1-1 ) , @ St. Louis ( 0-2 ) , & @ Arizona ( 2-0) ....... all seemingly winnable games. The Bills can conceivably be 5-0 going into their bye ... setting 'em up to finally make a run for the play-offs.

Here's hoping.

Let me tell you, having watched about 75% of that horrible SEA @ BUF game, Buffalo smashed the Hawks like it was 1991!

My [least?] favorite play was when Hasselbeck hiked the ball while under center and two/three Bills rushed through the line and swallowed him up before he took two steps back.

It really got to the point where I thought Seattle should just start kneeling or punting or 1st down.

Yeah, so they'll be 4-0 heading into the Arizona game...:manicd:

Breaking News

Tavaris Jackson has been benched for Gus Frerotte. No wonder they tried to trade for Brett Favre. The trade they should have tried was for Chriss Simms or Jeff Garcia. I hope Simms gets another chance somewhere else.

Thoughts on week 2? Here goes....

First of all, The Patriots are still a formidable team, but they are not an ELITE team. They will probably win their division, but why on Earth is everyone complimenting Matt Cassel? What has he done? The Patriots are playing very conservatively. If Brady was playing, they would be winging the ball everywhere. Also keep in mind that the Patriots played the Chiefs (who lost to the crappy Raiders) and the Jets (since when did they become great?). Let's wait to see what happens when Cassell plays a good team.

Brett Favre. Yep, this is his last year. There's a reason why Green Bay didn't want to take him back. Plus, Brett retired. What else was Green Bay supposed to do? Yep, Favre is going to realize how miserable life will be when the Jets don't win. Remember, he contemplated retirement when GB was losing.

You have to give credit to Mike Shanahan. Yes, they were aided by a ref's blown call, but to go for 2? That takes BALLS. Plus, the blown call means nothing if San Diego defends the play. It was the same play as the TD play. They fell for it twice. They deserved to lose.

The Cowboys/Eagles game was a great game. I laughed at Desean Jackson, because he has done stuff like that back in high school. He is from the same area where I grew up and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He did stupid antics then to. But, the guy is a weapon. Do not count him out. Glad he is on my fantasy team.

Terrell Owens needs to grow up. Do you hear McNabb talking about Owens tenure with the Eagles a few years ago? NO. Why is he still talking about McNabb? T.O. is doing well in Dallas and for the most part, he is keeping his mouth shut. Keep it shut!

Man, the Rams are HORRIBLE!!! The Bengals aren't too far behind. I like the Bengals too. Oh well....

You know, being in the LA area can suck. We have no NFL team and what games do we get during last Sunday? Do we get any marquee games? Do we get to see Patriots/Jets? Vikings/Colts? Packers/Lions? Barack Obama/Sara Palin? Tom/Jerry? NO. We get Rams/Giants (neither team is West of the Mississippi river), Raiders/Chiefs (ooooooh! There's a great game...) and Chargers/Broncos (ok, that was a good game).

I hope people realize that Cleveland's season last year was a fluke. There's a reason Derek Anderson was never good, until his joyride last year. There's a reason why Jamal Lewis was let go by Baltimore. C'mon folks, the Browns are going nowhere.

Damn, who wants to win the SuperBowl. The AFC looks shaky. The Cowboy defense no longer looks unbeatable. How long can the Packers win? What will happen to Rodgers once they lose a few games? We shall see.

As for my 49ers. Man, people are finally realizing what 49er fans have been saying all along. First, fire Mike Nolan. Second, why on this planet did we draft Alex Smith. I KNEW that clown was going to suck. I wanted Aaron Rodgers, or Braylon Edwards. We wasted all that money on a guy who played in a "gimmick" college offense. Fire Nolan now!

Can Lane Kiffin get fired already?

Don't bash San Francisco too much. Remember, the debate was Alex Smith vs. Aaron Rodgers. You know what hurts in San Francisco? Playing 4 different coordinators in 4 Alex Smith years. I hope Alex Smith gets another chance somewhere else. Meanwhile, I'm relying on J.T. O'Sullivan to save my 1-1 fantasy team against the Lions. I drafted David Garrard (The guy before me picked Eli Manning, & I envy my fellow Giant fan) & picked up Matt Cassel. Both are terrible.

Correction: I had the Texans as my AFC wild card, not the Titans. So that means my preseason AFC picks have three wins, with two of the wins on the dark side of the NFL force. However, I like that because I was tired of San Diego & Indianapolis having hammerlocks on their divisions.

The Bungles are back! But I am worried about trap games with The Bengals as road dogs against the Giants & the Chargers at home against the Jets.

By the way, as a preview for the picks, all home teams except Green Bay (vs. Dallas) are favorites this week.

I'll post the lines tomorrow night if George or someone else hasn't done it yet. I plan to use this site:

http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_lines.shtml

unless anyone objects or George uses a different site. I'll talk with George (ticklingfeet4fu) so that I can get on the same page.

That is ROUGH. You might consider going to a bar or hooters or even shelling out the money for Direct TV. Seriously, I don't even think fans of those teams could watch those first two games.

Why not bring back Mariucci? Doesn't sound so bad now does it? (kidding; I think Singletary would be a good coach for the niners)

Can Lane Kiffin get fired already?

It's coming, it's coming.

I'm just curious who 'the corpse that is Al Davis' will get as a new coach...? Tom Flores?:manicd:

T.O. talked about him because he was asked about it. It's not like he talked about this when they were about to play the Bengals. It was relevant to that weeks game.

The Dallas defense will be fine. The Cowboys are still number one.

Oh, and, HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!

Sing your praises now, Cowgirl. And while you're at it, start getting your excuses ready. December 7th will be here before you know it and I'll be anxious to hear what they will be as to why Dallas got their asses handed to them by the next Super Bowl champs.

LOL. You should worry less about that game and more about this week. Who knows if Big Ben will even make it until then. I hope everything is going great in Steeler land when we roll through because it'll make victory that much sweeter.

But TickleFiend, even if TO is asked about McNabb, what is wrong with him saying, "What happened in the past is the past. I'm happy to be a Cowboy and I look forward to playing this game."

No, we get him talking about how McNabb is jealous of him. Do you ever hear McNabb saying the same types of things? No. Figure it out....

The Cowboys are good, no doubt, but for a team that hasn't won a playoff game since the 1900s, you can't crown them just yet.

As for Mike Nolan and Alex Smith, I want them both gone. When Nolan disrespected Jerry Rice, I was done with him. DONE. Ever since then, he has not done anything for the franchise. Picking Alex Smith was a HUGE mistake. Yes, Smith has 4 coordinators in 4 years, but he never really elevated his game. He couldn't beat out a journeyman and the offensive coordinator now is a pass happy nut. Rodgers would have been the better choice OR Braylon Edwards. No, we get Alex Smith. I saw "BUST" written on his forehead the day he was drafted. In fact, I don't know how many 49er fans were happy when he was selected.

But it would be hilarious if somehow the 49ers beat the Cowboys this year...
