What say all of you?

Correcting the poll question above:

Yes, David Stern only wants certain teams to win

No it's not rigged. Great players get the benefit of the officials. Jerry Rice drew more PI calls than anyone, if Wade Boggs didn't swing at a pitch often the umpire would consider his judgment that it was a ball, also if you touched Mario Lemieux in the NHL you went right to the box. Just the way sports worked IMO. 🙂

If it were, it would be a bigger black eye than steroids in baseball. Having said that, I would say no and hope like hell that it's the right answer.

i think that there is a high chance that it is, seems that whoever is the biggest story that season usually wins ala the celtics and the big three last year and lebron and all the 2010 talk this year (assuming the cavs win it)

I wouldnt say its rigged, but in most sports, theres definately some foul play on games. its all about gambling and money.

Allow me this question if only to to try and make things more interesting, looking back on the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the LA Lakers and the Sacramento Kings and the 2006 NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat, what if it did come out that those two series were rigged because David Stern wanted the Lakers, a higher profile team than the Kings, and wanted the Heat to win the championship because of his dislike of Mark Cuban.

What would the fall out be if any?

Not really, I know what only all other fans of the Mavericks and Kings know, a lot of unfair calls benifiting another team, but that links has a nice article on both series.

Also think of this: Rajon Rando fish hooks Brad Miller, throws Kirk Hinirich into the first row and gets no suspention in the Boston - Chicago series, Kobe Bryant thorws a elbow on Ron Artest and get no suspenion.

Alot of people think that some of these were a little unfair.

I know this is an old thread, but I'll chime in.

From what I've read, and seen, it seems that what happens is just the opposite. Often times, past and present NBA superstars get called for soft or rackytack fouls by refs.

I used to watch the Knicks often in the 1980s and 1990s when Patrick Ewing was in his prime. It always seemed like the refs were calling fouls on Ewing for the lightest touches.

It continued in the last ten years on the good Lakers teams with Kobe Bryant and Shaq O'Neal. Often times, when watching Laker games, it seemed like Shaq and Kobe were called for the most insignificant fouls, when others could get away with much harder fouls. In fact, in Phil Jackson's book, The Last Season, his chronicle of the 2003-2004 Lakers season, Jackson stated that he got fined, twice, for publicly complaining that the refs were calling unfair fouls on Shaq.

While it might be true that some superstars get away with things, the instances I cited are examples of how this isnt always the case.
