Heard this on the way to work this morning. A true legend of music has left us. R.I.P. Doc 🙁

"Will the Circle be Unbroken?" and "Open Up Them Pearly Gates for Me". Doc got his wish in both songs. I loved recently listening to my tape of Doc and Clarence White during a "guitar workshop" at a California folk festival. Needless to say, there was nothing for the "scrap pile" from those two. He was always able to touch, amaze and entertain the audience. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends and flatpickers everywhere.

I saw him perform live a few years ago. Even though he could no longer sing spot-on like before (got some lyrics mixed up), his picking was as clean as ever.

Having become blind at a young age, his father encouraged him to enter a musical career which became his livelihood.
