Doctor Who (UK, US..anywhere fans here?)

LOL, dskodj, i agree.
The return episode was a little disappointing. I liked the Doctor-out-on-the-town with his prisoner scenes, it was humorous yet oddly romantic, don't you think?

What ever happened to good ol Capt. Mike Yates LOL the last he was seen was in "Planet Of The Spiders" (the episode where Pertwee regenerates into Tom Baker at the end) and nothing was ever said to write him out of the show..he just..disapeared LOL.

Actually, and my bros could give me the better goods on the question, Capt Yates did get written out of the show - sadly it was in rather an unfavourable way. During an early (may have been the first) Tom Baker story "Robot" there was this Mensa-esque think tank that had as its mission to take over the leadership of the globe so as to run things properly. (Hmm, there's a plot we've never seen before! 🙄 😛)

Anyway, sadly, poor Capt. Yates, it turns out by the end, has been suckered into becoming a member!

However, as i recall, he does some last minute soul-redeeming act which results in him merely getting kicked out of U.N.I.T. as opposed to more severe punishments. As a follow up result Sgt Benton gets promoted to Warrant Officer. As i recall Mike Yates turns up in another sequence later as a civilian but i confess that these days i'm a little shaky on that bit.

LOL yea it could be looked at as oddly romantic I suppose. Was funny when she was tryin to throw poison darts at him at the table and he catches em

On the other note, now you mention it..I DO remember vaugly Capt Yates coming back later as non U.N.I.T. And yep, "Robot" was Tom Baker's first episode, although I didnt recall him in that. I think you may be refering to the episode right before (Planet Of The Spiders), cause thats where he joined those cult type people..the ones doin that "ummmm bolly bolly blah blah" chant stuff (ya know what im talkin bout LOL) and bringing the spider people in LOL..which in the end leads to the regeneration into Tom Baker.

Now I wonder what lays ahead with the 10th doctor and if hes gonna be any good. From what I know the actor playin him (David Tennant) was a die hard Who fan growing up and idolised Tom Baker...and by the small bit we got to see of him so far..id def say its possible hes gonna be wacked one like Tom was

I do recall the Spider-tale Oooh that was CREEPY!! *No i don't do well with the 8-leggers! --shudder* Hmm, not a fun tickle having spiders crawl on you.

Actually i'm pretty sure about the Robot. It wasn't the bally-whoo types that sucked him in. It was the intelligensia people whom Sarah Jane Smith went to interview that Mike Yates got involved with.

maybe we should just, you know, go back and dig up a DVD and watch it or something. 😀 whatcha think??

For me it would be diggin out the old VHS tapes LOL. I think I have that episode somewhere round here. Its been a looong time since I seen it i'll tell ya. But, you are right again...I do now ya mention it remember Sarah Jane going to that place and all...I think im gonna have to dig around here and see if I can find it...gotta def watch it again sometime soon
