As a fellow Calgarian, I gotta tell you there are resources here in town that can help you out. Our local BDSM Community has a website:
www.bondagecalgary.com which may be able to steer you into the right direction. Plus, they will be more than helpful in providing SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS for the design of your table.
Things to remember while designing:
(1) Don't bind your 'lees chest too tightly, they need to breathe. When they turn blue...that's a bad thing!!!
(2) Don't bind your 'lee's joints. That's where the veins are closest to the skin, you don't want their hands or feet to turn purple and fall off;
(3) Have wide binds. A single strand of rope will cut into the 'lee's skin, whereas a couple of wraps with a cloth will distribute the pressure over a larger area. Check the distal pulse (CAP refill for the hands, pulse on top of the foot for pedal pulse), or even better yet--ask the 'lee if the binds are too tight.
(4) Hard points lead to skin breakdown. Pad between any metal or hard plastic attachment points, otherwise friction or pressure will erode away at the skin underneath.
(5) Have extrication tools close by. If you have zippers, you should also have wire cutters available to cut off the zip (cut the zip's seperator and pull the zipper apart). EMT shears are helpful with ropes, webbing and fabric ties.
