Does Ticklishness Come and Go? Fake or Not Fake?

There is a lot to your question. Here's a reply to part of it.
Ticklish people are indeed sometimes more sensitive to tickling than at other times.
I think we are at our most ticklish when we are healthy, well rested, in a happy psychological mood, etc. Ticklish people are less ticklish when they are ill, are in pain, etc.
I am a very ticklish guy and I cannot remember really being tickled and not laughing. On the other hand, I am sometimes more ticklish than others and then I cannot help laughing more.
About the digging in. I hear some people are ticklish to digging in, some ticklish to light feathery touches, some ticklish to scraping finger nails, some ticklish to squeezing, some are ticklish to poking, etc. Others may be ticklish to two or more of the above. It seems perfectly possible that some might only be ticklish to really digging in. I am ticklish to all of the above; however, if the digging, squeezing, poking kinds of tickling are too hard, I find it hurts rather than tickles and that does not evoke laughter at all.

Ticklishness, in most cases has already been scientifically proven to be influenced, in large part, by emotional state, situation, acquaintance, preparedness & anticipation, and area on the body.
So, in answer to questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7, I would say it depends on the person's emotional state, situation, acquaintance, preparedness & anticipation, and where they are being tickled.

5 - often something may tickle for the first few seconds and then die off when the suprise wears out.

It sounds like your situation may be that your girlfriend doesn't really enjoy tickling as much as she tolerates it from you because she cares about you.
My guess is that if she received that kind of advice from her girlfriend, then that means she has possibly confided her dislike of tickling to her and asked if there was anything she could do to deal with it more.
My advice would be to lay off on the constant tickling all the time. Use it intimately without the intense tickle torture, and allow her to find an appreciation for the dynamics of tickling.

ok, i'm gonna answer the questions from the first post from a person point of view. but only from speculation, since i've never been really tickled for that long.
1 - no, i'm pretty much ticklish all the time. except maybe when i just wake up. i think senses must be slightly dull then cuz i'm not fully alert.
2 - no, i would be trying to get free the whole time, but still continue to laugh
3 - i'm way too ticklish, i burst out laughing right away. but i could probably hold in laughter for a good 20 seconds or so if i was proving to someone that i could take it.
4 - again, if i wanted to prove that i could take it, i could block it out of my mind (or pinch myself to distract myself). but if the constant poking was unsuspected, no i couldn't ignore it.
5 - unlike other replies to this question, if it tickles, it will always tickle
6 - i agree with ericr that it depends what style of tickling affects you the most, so digging in really doesn't say a whole lot

i could tickle for hours but it only takes minutes for me to be at the point of where I almost give up. My wife tickles me all the time and I do all i can to break free but where she gets that strength from i'll never know and she'll like 120lbs if that
