Yaaaaay!

The Supreme Court has ruled them both unconstitutional!

🙂

Well, they said that only the state of California could defend Prop 8, not the group fighting for it but... same thing! California has gay marriage again. Hurray for them. And for all the gay married people that now get to file taxes jointly. Woohoo.

Thank you GOD! I was SOOO WORRIED the court would rule AGAINST us (what with it being a pretty conservative court and all). Now my lover and I can finally start planning our glorious wedding. (SQUEEEE) ^_^

Ooh, you two are getting married then? Pre-emptive congrats! ^_^

As a Christian and a conservative on the political spectrum, the subject of gay and lesbian marriage is one of those that I for the life of me don't understand what people have an issue with. The act of two people of the same sex getting married and receiving the benefits of such doesn't (or at least shouldn't) affect those who are against the idea of gay marriage, nor is our taxpayer money at risk of somehow funding such events, save for the benefits...but in fairness, such benefits go to many other specific groups as well. The matter then is mostly that of ideology - and as long as it doesn't innately oppress or otherwise intrude on others' lives, then I don't see how it's fair to deny that right.

I say, as long as gays respect the sanctity that marriage represents to us Christians, we should respect the freedoms and right of choice that gays and lesbians wish to express as individuals, so that they may share the same bond of love and companionship that's so, so important in a relationship.

Good job with the courts. Now it's up to us all - on both sides of the isle - to set the good example that, despite our differing opinions, we can live harmoniously with one another, and share kindness and respect, rather than antipathy and vitriol. I'm proud to be a Christian, and I'm quite encouraged to see you in the above posts showing your pride at being gay, especially during this exciting time of social change. That pride in ourselves, I'm sure we can all agree, is one of the best parts about being human. =D

Such a beautifully written post. If more Christians were like you, I may not have this aversion to religion that I do. I find their design so closed, as to mire the development of this world, but, if in the smallest way it is opening up in the hearts of individuals like yourself, there's hope for me that a future can be bright and people can still coexist in harmony like you wish. The world is a constantly changing place. An ever expanding universe, and a garden of a planet that bears seeds that grow and die and grow again. To try to stop change would be like trying to stop time. Maybe change will find us all in a better place. <3

Inverse, you'll be surprised how many Christians "like me" are out there! That's part of why I hate the idea of stereotypes - lots of people seem to choose to view the antagonizing side of our faith, but don't give the rest of us a fair representation, simply because of the focus on the bad, or at least more exclusive bits. It would be the same if I were to assume that all gays were flamin' or something ('course, there's nothing wrong with flamin' either...it's like chipotle as opposed to Tabasco :lol). One must always keep an open mind, while at the same time being true to yourself and your beliefs. There are undoubtfully many things I'd disagree with my more liberal friends, but it stands that you still are, in fact, my friends - and you deserve to be treated as such, just as we Christians deserve to be treated as people who are capable of thinking rationally as well. 😉

But to get back on topic, these court decisions are certainly stirring up the debate and discussions on gay marriage once again. I hope that this time around, the momentum keeps up - at least more visibly so! What good is democracy if the debate keeps getting swept under the rug, right? More than symbols or slogans, the nation could benefit most from a nice, healthy conversation. Also, this would be a great time to invest in a quality pair of rainbow socks...not that that needs to symbolize homosexuality necessarily - rainbow socks are just awesome in and of themselves! :super_hap

Hmmmm...how scandalous can I make my wedding dress...I want it to have plenty of feathers...heheh...I'm getting goose bumps (and it doesn't help that my lover/mistress is kissing my shoulders and neck). ^_~
