What's the current scoop on Domain Name Registration ?

I saw a place offering $5 annual registration

Is that the going price these days ?

I haven't been involved in this in years, and don't know the first thing about what's going on in this market at the moment.

Anybody have good or bad stories to tell me ?
 
Eh, prices for nearly every aspect of webhosting have been declining of late. But, I've seen as high as $29.99 for domain registration at some places still. It all depends on how far you buy down tha ladder. I.e., how far from the top-tier ICANN name service providers.

THere WAS supposed to be an upgrade to the system a few months or so ago that would have cut domain propogation time down fron around 72 hours to only an hour or less. However, I don't know if that ever actually happened....
