I have to say I can't disagree with this one. Unlike the MVP, which should go to someone who's team wouldn't have been the same without him, this award is just for the personal performance of the player alone. And while there are a few others we could look at (Adrian Peterson, that receiver on the Texans who's name I can't recall at the moment because I'm old and tired), but Brees did some phenomenal things with little to work with.
With not much of a team around him, Drew kept the Saints alive far longer than I would have thought, basically on his play alone. Without a real "Go-To Guy", he spread the ball around to wherever it needed to go. And, sadly, fell just...what was it, 24 yards?...short of Dan Marino's single-season record.
For an older QB on a less-than-stellar team, this award, I believe, went to the right player. If the Saints had any kind of even average defense this year and a consistent running game (Reggie Bush=WAY overvalued college player), we'd probably be talking about New Orleans as a Super Bowl favorite.
Congrats to Drew Brees!
